They to check the menu of the TV is there is any option to activate the Digital out or is there is any setting which allow you make a selection between internal speaker or external speaker. if its there the make the setting as external speaker . Batteries could be bad, circuit board in the remote may be shot and try cleaning the infrared light on the remote and TV. If none of that works order a new remote or get an all in one, just make sure it has the programmable code for your TV
