My 4GB PNY Optima sd card will not read

Try the 4GB card in some other reader, or your camera, to confirm that it does work.

It's possible that your card-reader will not support anything over 2GB.

Repair

It may be broken, but I've found that you can get a repair for a non-appearing pen drive by using the wonderful software called photorec bundled in the testdisk software. (http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Download)

Just got a kingston 4gb memory card but it is not

With regards to your problem with Kingston 4Gb memory card, I am happy to share to you the following diagnosis:
  1. Make sure that your memory card is not damage. Upon buying you need to test it;
  2. Maybe the memory card is not properly formatted as NTFS or FAT32 depending on the machines' specifications but usually this particular storage device must be formatted into FAT32; or
  3. It happens that your PC and camera couldn't recognize the card because maybe the card reader of both gadget were damage and definitely will require to buy a new one.

Take no more pics until you've recovered your photos, take the card out of the camera. This is to reduce the chance of you overwriting some of your "lost" photos. There are many good freeware photo recovery software options that may help you recover your photos. This article reviews and outlines several of the better ones. Now after you've recovered your photos, consider formatting the card in the camera to prevent this from happening again.

Reamo memory paswerd

Step 1: The first thing you want to do is check to see if you can get into the computer the easy way. Try signing on as a guest. If there is no "guest" option try typing in: guest then press enter. If this fails, no need to worry, just move on to the next step. If this step fails then just Hit ctrl + alt + del. Under the username put the word "administrator" and put nothing under password. Most likely this will work, since there is a secret administrators account in every computer. If by any chance this does not work: continue to the next step... If you are on the computer already and need a way to access the computer in the future without knowing the password try this: Go to the start menu, then to "control panel", click on "user accounts"... Make another account with your own password to it! This way you can sign in with your own user name and there's no need in knowing the password. The downside to this though is that the computer often displays all usernames once you sign on. Restart the computer and find out, on some computers it doesn't! This last step is a bit drastic, but you can change the password on the computer given that you are already signed on. You don't have to know the password in order to change it.
