How to change ink cartridge in Canon PIXMA mx490?
Canon has a range of low-priced designs, comparable to other suppliers that supply printers as well as MFPs to home as well as small business people. The canon mx490 wireless setup is sure to set you back just over a hundred dollars. For a four-function device that provides printing, scanning, copying and faxing, that's not much, but it doesn't necessarily mean it's a great value. The
Canon Pixma mx490 setup wireless offers no-frills printing, scanning, copying and faxing with a small black rectangle of 17.2 at about 11.7 inches and assessing just 13 additional pounds. A folding auto document feeder (ADF) contains 20 sheets and does not scan duplex like the tool's printer portion as well. The top of the MX490 is hinged when the glass scanning platform is raised.
My PGBK cartridge stopped printing.
After removing all the ink cartridges, I removed the print head and soaked it in propyl alcohol overnight. Then blew it out gently with an aerosol 'air duster' and washed it again in fresh propyl alcohol followed by another blowing out. After gently blotting the print heads on a soft tissue and replacing the print head plus cartridges, it necessitated two deep cleans to get the inks through and all now works again.
Make sure that you switch off the printer at its On/Off switch and not at the supply. I think I may have done this and left the heads not parked properly - hence the drying out!
Prints purple instead of black
Seems like you have a similar problem to the 'orange' print, although if the print starts out black and turns purple, this may be down to the printer not working properly, rather than the software or drivers. If so, it's worth checking with the shop you bought from whether the Canon warranty is still valid.
The following might help if it's a driver \ software problem:
Download the latest drivers and software from the Canon website.
Before
you install them (before you double-click the stuff you've downloaded), un-install all of your printer software then shut
down your computer, even if the un-install program doesn't tell you to.
Switch off your printer, then unplug the usb cable from the printer (not the pc).
When
the computer restarts, install the new software and drivers exactly the
same way as in the original instructions that came with the printer.
Only turn the printer on and plug the usb cable in when the instructions tell you to.
If
this doesn't work, the printer may be faulty. If you contact the dealer
you bought it from, they may have a warranty running with Canon that
lasts more than the guarantee period. It's worth a try, though you may
have to pay for a courier to pick up and bring back your printer.
Black ink volume unknown
Problem is you refilled the cart and didn't reset it properly so it looks like a new cart, check your other carts and see if gears or holes are wrong.
My Canon printer won't shut off
On solution may be to: go into the Control Panel to Printers and clear all print commands...even if one isn't showing, clear anyway.

Description:
B200 is a service error that can occur due to a hardware failure with either the printer or the print head.
Resolution:
In most instances, a B200 error will require a repair at a Canon authorised repair centre, however prior to sending your printer for repair please follow the steps below to try and resolve this error-
- Turn off the printer
- Disconnect the power cable
- Open the printer cover
- Check for any orange protective tape or white polystyrene and remove if necessary
- Check that there are no foreign objects in the printer (such as a paper clip) and remove if necessary
- Close the cover
- Reconnect and turn on
If the error message is still showing, then it is necessary to deliver or send the printer to an authorised repair centre.
If the printer is still under warranty, (generally one year from purchase) and supporting documentation is provided, then a free of charge warranty repair will be carried out.
If the warranty has expired, then any repairs can only be carried out at cost and charges will apply.
