Does the N122OU have OCR capability?
OCR can work on any Scanner, I Believe that the Software is what converts to OCR. I Have A CanoScan N659U. Using Microsoft Office Document Imaging software scanned 150 sheets of genealogy that I do not have to retype. OCR has been around sense about 1928 however, not until about 1974 was the principal used with Flatbed scanners. They do have a few Open source OCR scanning software's available, and they have serval online OCR services. I Prefer the MicroSoft Office 2007 Document Imaging Software myself.
My Canoscan 4200F has no OCR software. How do I get it?
OCR software is usually a third-party program. Sometimes it is available on the original driver CD but it isn't included in the downloaded driver software. In the case of the CanoScan 4200F, the CD included the OmniPage SE OCR program. The SE indicates a Special Edition only bundled with the scanner and was only available for the OS versions that had been released when the scanner was first available. If you have the original CD (for Win98-XP), try to install the program using the Custom install option. (Check your current OS version. A 32-bit OS is more likely to support the OmniPage SE. With Windows Vista and 7, click Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System to determine the version. x64 indicates a 64-bit OS. ) If your current computer doesn't have an optical drive, use an external optical drive to install the program. If you do not have the CD or your OS is incompatible with the Omnipage version on the CD, you will need to either purchase OmnuPage ($99 with a rebate from many vendors), AbbySoft's OCR program or one of the other OCR programs. Hello I have recently purchased a second-hand
Don't use the OmniPage software for scanning. OmniPage is an OCR (optical character recognition) program and is trying to convert the scan into a document compatible with a text editor (such as Microsoft Word). Use a graphics editing program, and use the option to 'Import' or 'Acquire' an image. Make sure that the LiDE 25 is specified as the scanner, and you should be linked to the scanner interface. Now when the scan is complete, it will be transferred to the graphics editor as an image, not a document.
Question about copying direct from scan to a Word document
Check if your Canon software creates a PDF image. A scanned image is a RASTER image, a series of dots, that 'appear' like text or drawing. You cannot use Ctrl-C or Ctrl-v. If the software creates a PDF file, you can cut & paste. Usr any good OCR (Optical Character recognition) software ad convert the raster image to editable text. Then you can cut & paste.

Email scanned docs
You don't. Scanners save everything as a Picture. Test is not text, it is a combination of thousands of dots that make up a picture. It takes an OCR and very complicated software to read text from a picture.
Can the canoscan lide 70
Yes, but you have to use a special program called an "OCR" (Optical Character Recognizer) which will "read" the document from the scan. A scanner only produces a picture of a document, and it requries special software to "read" that image and make it editable.
The LIDE 70 comes with OMNIPAGE SE (special edition) which will work for simple documents. For more complex documents, you may need to buy the full edition of OMNIPAGE or another OCR package like FineReader. It is also built in fto software like OneNote and Evernote.

Ocr
Use any OCR software and it will take care of converting the scanned image into .DOC file or .PDF file. Some OCR softwares require a minimum dpi output, standard being 300 dpi. Ensure that the image is clean and 'straight', deskew if skewed.
I cannot use scanner Lide
Sounds like the scan head is locked. This is usually done so you can transport the scanner without bouncing the scan head out of alignment. Look under the scanner and you will see it. Make sure it's in the UNLOCKED position. You may need to power the unit off/on to reset it or restart your computer to get a fresh attempt at the scanner.
