Check oil level and oil pressure switch, if not that then check fuel supply, pump and fuel lines.

Model 256c means it's a Caterpillar. Did you look under the seat? Since you apparently don't have an owner's manual, you need to get one. Manual should be stored on the machine in a weatherproof case.

check the pressure for each of the clutch packs through the test ports with a pressure gauge, sounds like you are losing pressure when the oil is hot and thin. Have the engine at running temp when testing,
also test the charge pump pressure for system pressure.

I would try putting lift hose on the down side and down hose on the lift side. If it lifts when you push the down control and does not go down when you use the lift control then it may be a spool problem. Always take care to control all forms of energy when removing hoses to prevent harm or *****. I'm not sure if the spool on your loader is pilot controlled or mechanical linkage?? If it is mechanical take a look at all linkage and make sure its moving correctly. If its. Pilot control then the issue may be there also. Good luck and be safe.

Almost always the fuel filters. If the filters have been changed and the air is removed from fuel system it may be the pump. There should be a primer bulb in line with the fuel hose coming from the tank. Give that a squeeze and it should get hard if you have fuel pressure. If the primer bulb collapses when the machine dies that means there is something inside the suction tube located inside the tank. I have had this happen many times. You have to remove the suction tube from the tank to clean it out. DO NOT BLOW AIR INTO THE LINE. Good luck.

If no hydraulics are operating then there may be a few things to look at. Check the hydraulic fluid level as drive and bucket controls are hydraulic based. The hydraulic pump is shaft driven by the hydrostatic pump. If the fluid level is not proper, this could cause symptoms. Air in the system is another factor but most systems are self purging.

There are filters in various points around the unit and are 40 micron. Main filter has s bypass should filter be clogged. However, the smaller filters do not. The hydraulic system stays at charge pressure and fluid flows through control valves until actuated. If a spool is stuck, it may be bypassing fluid not allowing pressure to build up. Should give a basic starting point to troubleshoot further.
