FOUL TASTE OR SMELL IN ICE OR WATER FROM FRIDGE Check ice and water filter: If equipped, the Ice and Water filter in your refrigerator is responsible for removing any debris or contaminants from your water that may still remain after local water treatment. Most filters contain and are made up of carbon and fabric filter. Over time, the filter may become restricted and reduce the water flow to the ice maker, causing a symptom of little or no ice. Most manufacturers recommend replacing the filter every 6 months but local water conditions may require that you replace more frequently. We had the same issues with the water freezing and called a technician out. He added some extra insulation installed around the water lines inside the refrigerator and we also keep our frig at 40 degrees Fahrenheit, slightly above the manufacturers default setting. Hope this helps.

Hello Dennis; My name is Peter. I am a retired field service technician. You did not provide a model number. So, I am going to speak in general. It sounds like you have a bad or stuck contact switch. Or, you ice dispenser handle is broken and activating the dispenser. You contact switch will look like the following: There are two slots on the bottom of the dispenser frame for a flat head screw driver. Pop the bottom out. The rest of the frame is held by plastic tabs. Push in the sides to remove the frame. Ground yourself by touching something that is steal. Static electricity will knock out a board. Remove the board. The tray that collect water is full. Remove it slowly and empty into the sink. Don't forget to put it back in the fridge. You need to do this time to time.

I would go for 40 on the suction and 150 discharge, or divide the locked rotor current by 6 and charge so the current is 1/6 of the locked rotor current of the compressor, or by temperature/pressure relation 110* discharge and 35* suction, or get the suction line sweating. The best way is to remove all the refrigerant and then weigh the refrigerant the system is designed for on these critical charge appliances.

This appears to be a reference to the defrosting component of a Amana freezer. Let's just assume that it is not a problem with the freezer door seals. (If the seal is not a tight seal when the door is closed, you have melting occurring and the the freezer trying to compensate by refreezing, yielding a lot of icing in the compartment. This is what happens if you over stuff the freezer and the freezer door does not quite close firmly, as well.) The Amana defrost thermostat might be defective or have become dislodged for some reason. If defective, it would require replacement. But let's say it is not defective. The defroster didn't work when there was too much ice buildup. This could cause the molex connector in the thermostat to contract, breaking the connect activating it. One user "fixed" this problem by putting aluminum foil inside the molex connector. Check first that there is no leak coming through your gasket a good way is stick a flashlight inside your freezer turn out the lights if you see and beam or light the seal is cracked or must be replaced the check your coils where Freon is supplied if there not cold you must to a pressure test while adding Freon also check for leaks by spraying water on your coils . It's a matter of mathematical elimination also check thermostat if your Amana is under 10 years old look for the fault codes and get someone that can read what faults are being detected

ice maker has stop making ice, but you can hear the water going to it, i think it might be frozen up. what is the best way to thaw it out with out turning the whole fridge off.

Possibly the filter both air and water. Make sure the lines aren't frozen. If the unit has an ice maker you can warm the lines with a blow dryer ( warm on low fan) make sure it's level. Is the trim gasket around the door worn?
