Fridge Area Light Will Not Turn Off

We have the same issue with the 22.4 Cu Ft Kenmore elite bottom freezer. Has anyone figured out the problem? Very frustrating..We have unplugged the fridge..nothing. checked to make sure it was getting power to the light socket..all good. We accidently left the freezer door open a little. maybe 15 minutes..we looked and the freezer light came on..closed the door and opened it again, the light still came on..got up the next morning and no light again..Sure dont want to spend $75.00 for a sears tech to come look at it...

TO: lizlansingtx - I also bought my elite in 2006 and now in 2010 my light would have caused a fire last night. My entire fridge was hot and the light is melting off....infact, it is all burned inside the light - the entire bulb sockets and wires!!! Chances are that you will have to replace the buzzer. That part is available at Sears Direct. J

I had the same problem with a kenmore elite fridge and recieved the same response from Sears customer service!!! File a complaint with your local BBB. Sears contacted me within the day and sending out a tech at their expense only after the complaint was filed. Good luck. Elana

this unit has a history of the light circuit failing and it will cause the lights to either stay on or off. if they stay on, it will melt the housing around the upper bulb area. it has a recall and should be covered by sears for no charge. it is the control board failure and has a sticking relay for the light circuit, needs board replaced.
the 3 beeps are the unit thinking it has a door open. turn off the alarm on the door control board and call sears 800 # for repair.

Goo Gone made bt Magic american corporation it uses citrus to remove the tape.. for everyday use whirlpool makes an Appliance cleaner that work great..

My Kenmore Elite (Model 795.7755 3600), less than two years old, had the same problem. One morning I opened the doors to a hot fridge and burning plastic. The light housing was sizzling hot - much of the unit literally melting away. Another hour or two and it could have been much worse.

Called the 1-800 number listed in the fridge. After about 45 minutes of patient talking, I learned that Sears (or Kenmore) have issued what they refer to as a "flash warranty) on the light fixture kit (Kit # 6871JB1423N) which in effect, for this part only, extends the factory warranty from one year to three years. I may even be able to have a factory tech install the parts. Hope it works out.

Bottom line: if you have this fridge, be very careful and monitor closely. An pursue the part warranty!
