You do not need to clean a drain pump. After you have washes so many loads of clothes, soap scum builds up in your tub and will shorten the life of your product. You just need to run it thru the "clean" cycle. You can use 1/2 cup of bleach and NO detergent or you can by a tub cleaner from most grocery stores or Walmart and use that. It'll just remove any soap scum and mineral build-up off your tub. It should be done each time you washer tells you to do it. Hope this helps. :)
If you don't have a clean tub setting on your tub here are some instructions:
1. Wake your washer ip by pressing any button.
2. Turn to Handwash, press start and press cancel.
3. Press any button to wake your washer up again and immediately hold down the Eco friendly and control lock buttons at the same time. You'll have to hd them for more than 5 seconds for it to work, but it will eventually.
4. When the screen changes (see below) add your cleaner and start it up.
Good luck!!
Be patient because it doesn't always work the first time you try it. It will say "system clean 41 minutes" when the screen changes, by the way.
The eco and lock button worked the first time. Thank you!!

Hello jamespeattie - Does the washer making a humming noise? If so, either the drain hose may be kinked or the drain in the house is clogged. Once you have confirmed and cleaned the hose and if issue continues contact a professional to move forward accurately. The unit may possibly have a faulty pump or control board.
