There are three chances for not getting freeze. Defrost activate quickly, due to: 1. Thermostat malfunction- Replace it. Thermostat setting. - Must be -5 degree or less than that. 2. Defrost timer for malfunction. If so, replace it. 3. Freezer heater malfunction.- Replace it.3. System chocked or short of gas. Check with run amps. Solution: If system chocked, release all gas and replace filter drier. Flush out the system, vacuum and recharge gas. If short of gas, leak test and arrest it. Vacuum and do gas charging. Thanks.
There should be a control that allows you to make adjustments. If you cannot find a control I suggest going on line to Magic Chef, seek technical help directly from consumer services or technical services. There you may find a manual. Make certain you have all the information available, such as Model Number and other data.
No, the fridge will not get cold any more. The coolant goes to the coils in the freezer. The fridge takes a small amount of cold air from the freezer to lower its temperature.
I am sorry to say that unless you can find a way to repair the puncture and refill the system with freon, you are going to have to buy another refrigerator.
Disconnect power from unit. Remove the cover at the bottom, rear. Examine all refrigerant tubing for contact with other tubing or other surface. Carefully adjust the tubing to prevent contact vibration.
On this model, the push button in the center of the temperature control is for starting a manual defrost cycle.
If you see ice building up on the evaporator (the freezer section), you just push the button and the fridge will stop the cooling cycle and initiate a defrost cycle to melt the ice.
The unit will automatically start cooling after the pre-determined defrost cycle time has elapsed.
My daughter has an MCBR445w1, probably a similar size dorm refrigerator. It has died. I brought it home tonight to try and get it repaired. The red button in the center of the thermostat dial defrosts the unit. That's why you got the flood. On her unit, 1 is the warmest, 7 is the coldest. I'd turn it to 7 and see what happens. Keep dust off the coils if they are exposed.
I have a feeling these units are just bad refrigerators, but I will try and get hers running. Good luck with yours.
