Is your machine an Air Electronic SU? these were numbered 68 and 69, one was the standard base, the other a duplex base designed to go into a cabinet. The duplex base ones have a dished shape lower plate and the machine can be pivoted up out of the base to use as free arm, or lowered back down to use flush. The standard model has a flat base with four rubber feet.

So if your machine is a standard base Elna then you need to set it on a lowered platform so the top of the free arm is level with the top of your cabinet surface. You may have to rig up something suitable to achieve this different level rather than mounting the machine itself.

Horn sewing cabinets allow you to do this, you set the hydraulic lift platform to the right level so the top of the arm is level with the top of the cabinet, then they sold a persplex piece that would fit around the machine filling in the area between the free arm and the outside of the platform area giving you a flush platform.

If you have a flatbed machine they are normally all 16 inches long and will fit into any sewing machine cabinet, if you have a free arm machine it will mean a tailor made cabinet for the model you have which is normally made by Horn Cabinets but they are vfery expensive, you have not said what is exactly happenning to your machine when you select the stitches.

The only cabinets made to measure will be 'Horn Cabinets'

Horn cabinets will fit all machines but you need to find a sewing machine supplier to order one because they are very expensive

...have you measured the overall size of the "footprint" of your machine, and will it fit, some larger Janome's are larger than a "standard" size for the likes of a Horn Cabinet (see them here), although a larger insert is possible for certain models.........I think a little more info is needed for us to really be helpful.
