Question about Gateway 507GR PC Desktop

I have a Gateway 507GR. Will not boot. Acts like it is going to powerup. Checks the drives, but never gets to the harddrive. Then the power supply slows along with the cooling fans. Replaced the power supply and it does the same thing. Tried hooking it up to a different hard drive and get nothing. Do I need to replace the motherboard?

    How long has the computer been doing this? And did it happen all of a sudden or have their been performance issues creeping up slowly?

A better bet would be to get a replacement computer. It's a P4 and way past it's useful life.

Unplug the four-pin 12V ATX cable from the motherboard, and see if that makes it power up any better - it probably still won't work entirely, but see if it gets your cooling fans spinning. If so, you probably have a bad motherboard, with something shorting out the 12V power.

ATA drives usually plug into the drive ribbon cable; SATA drives usually plug into a connector on the motherboard.

I put a harddrive from my dell computer in my gateway dx200s. It booted up but I could not verify profit key. So I replaced the dell harddrive with the original gateway drive but now it wont boot. beeps...


all you need to do is put back the hard drive to the gateway, theres like a finger print that block the hard drive to come on but if you put back to its own i will come on...if you want to make it work in the dell you need to install a fress os...period...

Press on button w/in 10 seconds goes to sleep mode.... Gateway 507gr.


Go into the BIOS, POWER and change the setting to what you want, generally power off not sleep

Unplug the four-pin 12V ATX cable from the motherboard, and see if that makes it power up any better - it probably still won't work entirely, but see if it gets your cooling fans spinning. If so, you probably have a bad motherboard, with something shorting out the 12V power.

My Gateway 507GR PC desktop will not connect to internet


Turn off (unplug if necessary) your modem, router, and PC. Then power on the modem, wait a minute and then power on the router, then power on your PC, this should solve your issue if you have service.

GT5034 has power, blue light on power button, no beep, no boot, sounds like fan running hard. Hard drive light is on for a while and both CD drives green lights flicker. Nothing comes up on the monitor. HD...


powersource is good.motherboard might be the problem.harddrive can be tested by putting it in
another computer and see if it boot up.to test the mother board unhook the cd drives and harddrive.turn
on the computer and see if the gateway logo comes on.if it still does the the samething with everything unhooked
then it might be the bios.you might have to flash the bios and reinstall it.to do this i recommend you take it to a
shop.if the comp runs with everything still unpluged and stops then you know that you have a wrong
setting on the harddrive or cd drive.if you got two of anything make sure that you have a slave or master.if you nned me to

USB devices not always working on Gateway 507GR


Truthfully, I've found this to be true about most USB ports -- when more than two devices are installed. I'm not sure there is a real fix for the issue. It's kinda like wifi. It works and it works good, BUT it's not 100% (all the time). It's just the nature of the technology.

Operating system & harddrive not found


Did you remember to enter the BIOS setup and change the boot drive so the system would look to the (optical) drive in which you have put your XP disk? In most cases, you must tell the system where to look for boot files and with a new hard drive, there are no files to find.

If you don't have any malware defense installed yet, and can again get it up and running enough to go on line, I would recommend all of the following:

Basic versions are either free or ask for donations.

Keeps cycling to BIOS screen...


Hi pinkie890,

It sounds like there is a corrupt file (or files) somewhere in your Windows installation. I'm guessing that you might see a blue screen with white letters and numbers flash up briefly before it cycles back to the boot options for Windows.

It's actually bypassing the BIOS screen if you're seeing the Windows boot options, so chances are it's either a) a problem with Windows or b) a hard drive problem (physically).

My first suggestion, if you can't boot into Safe Mode, is that you boot off your Windows CD and do a Repair. When prompted, DO NOT format the drive in either NTFS or FAT32 (you should have an option that says 'Leave file system intact (no changes)'. This will install a copy of Windows over your existing installation but won't wipe out your personal data files. There is always a chance you'll lose your My Documents but that's slim. Hopefully you have a good backup done recently.

This isn't the optimal way to go, but it should take care of the issue. I would recommend doing what I've suggested, backing up your data, and then doing a fresh installation of Windows.

Let me know if I can be of further help. If you have access to another computer with a CD burner, download the free Ultimate Boot CD. Pop the case off your computer and check the hard drive to see what brand it is. At that point you can boot from the Ultimate Boot CD, run Hard Disk Tools, and then run the appropriate hard drive diagnostics tools for your particular hard drive brand. If the advanced/long test comes back with no error messages, you can rule out physical hard drive issues and be more or less certain that the problem you're experiencing has to do with your software.
