Does it still spin and try to wash? If so try moving your agiatator clockwise a full turn and counterclockwise. If you can without it locking than your dog agits are out. Agitator dogs is also another name for them. Part is number 5. You do not have to go through this site it helps cus it gives you a brakedown and a diagram.

Why is my washer spinning instead of agitating?

Check your cogs. Pull the top off agitator off and look inside.
Depending on model has different typed of cogs that slide and catch when working properly. The do wear out.
Also known as "dog ear cogs". Very cheap parts. $2.

I have a Kenmore model stylemaster 909610. It fills normally, but doesn't agitate properly, it moves, but barely, no odd noises or anything, just barely agitates and the clothes don't move it's so weak....

If you can move the agitator in both directions, you may just have some bad agitator dogs. They are located under the dispenser cap, below another cap and remove a 7/16 bolt to replace.

I have a kenmore 80 series, which I inherited when I bought my house. I noticed that the bottom of the agitator moves, but the main part doesn't. What can I do to fix it?

If this is a Whirlpool manufactured top loader (such as Kenmore, Estate, and Roper) they use a split-agitator design. In most cases, agitator slippage is caused by worn agitator dogs, a worn cam assembly, or both. This is a very simple repair that doesn't cost much, either. The following link explains: http://www.fixya.com/support/r3608577-replacing_agitator_dogs If any replacement parts are required, they can be purchased at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
appliancepartspros.com
pcappliancerepair.com
repairclinic.com

I have included the part number for the agitator dogs in the link provided. However, it is often more cost effective to purchase the entire cam replacement kit as opposed to purchasing individual parts. The kit usually includes the agitator dogs, cam, cam thrust bearing and replacement washers/seals (depends on the model number). The agitator cam assembly should be listed under the agitator parts listing. If you have questions, please post back with your complete MODEL NUMBER and let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

Agitator of my washing machine will not move, need a maint manual to show me how to remove it and how to open the top lid for this kenmore washing machine.

If this is a Whirlpool manufactured TOP LOADER WASHER (such as Roper, Kenmore, Estate and some later model Maytags), these model washers use a motor coupling in place of a drive belt and are known as direct-drive systems. If the washer does not agitate or spin, it could have several causes. Most commonly, this is caused by either a lid switch malfunction or a broken motor coupling. The following link explains how you can diagnose the problem yourself and repair:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3965207-whirlpool_top_loader_no_spin_problem

If the washer IS running, but the agitator is slipping, then you may have worn agitator dogs, or a loose agitator bolt. The following link explains what the dogs are, and how to access to acces the bolt and replace them:
http://www.fixya.com/support/r3608577-replacing_agitator_dogs Replacement parts (if required) can be purchased at any of the following websites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

Prices vary between sites, so shop and compare. The first three sites I listed also include helpful exploded view parts diagrams to assist you in locating and properly identifying the parts you may need. If you do not wish to order parts on line, use the part numbers from the Sears website and go to your nearest appliance parts retailer. Most of these parts are commonly sold as part of their in-store inventory.

Read through the information provided. If you have any questions, please post back with your MODEL NUMBER (located on a nameplate along the wash tub rim under the lid) and let me know. I hope this is helpful to you.

I have a Kenmore washing machine, it's approx 6 years old. The agitator on this machine always moved in a back and forth action. The other day it started to move in one direction only. Can you please tell...

Sounds like you need new agitator dogs. They are part number 80040. They have teeth in them and the teeth strip out. You will need to remove the agitator to replace these parts. Hope this helps _MJ_

Agitator will not move unless you press down on it.

If the agitator is slipping, you may have worn out agitator dogs. Yes, there is such a thing. These are small plastic clips that act in the manner of a clutch for the agitator. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r823955-replacing_agitator_dogs

The link also explains how to remove the agitator. If you require addtional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Machine will not agitate

most likely it's either a broken belt, or the motor is going out. to check it you need to take the outside casing off, not sure exactly how to do that on that model. Anyway open it up, check under the drum for a belt, if the belt is in tact than it's the motor, in which case. Personally I wouldn't put in the effor to replace. as to where you can get a belt if it is broken, I don't know that either. Good Luck
