My dc01 upright does not pick up dirt as well as when I first used it (new) after many years of faithful service. I regularly disassemble barrel and wash it and clean turbine head and clean filters. Does not seen to be any faults in any of the seals and have checked all nooks and crannies for blockages. Have done everything recommended in the manual. Seems to pick up dirt better with the accessory hose - any suggestions.

DC01:Disassembled to motor, lots of sparks/arcing at brushes when on.

If there is a lot of sparking, it's likely the armature is gone, especially if arcing across from one brush to the other, the motors can be bought for 15 to 20 from eBay.

It runs but not pick up dirt in cup

Hello! If the dirt is not entering into the dirt cup this could mean there is a clog in the vacuum or a filter that needs to be cleaned or replaced. Check that the brushes are still spinning. The vacuum has a brush-roll shut-off pedal on the right side of the cleaner if you are standing behind it. Below are simple instructions for checking your vacuum for clogs.

1. Remove the dirt cup. Twist off the dirt cup lid.
2. Remove the filter cartridge from dirt cup.
3. Separate the foam and cartridge filters. Wash foam filter under running. Allow 24 hours to air dry outside the vacuum.
4. Tap the excess dirt out of Hepa filter. Hepa filter may also be washed. Allow 24 hours to air dry.
5. Check the secondary filter by removing the filter cover from base. Rinse the foam filter under running water until it runs clear. Allow 24 hours to air dry.
6. The red baffle tube inside of the dirt cup is apart of the filtration of the vacuum and needs to be cleaned as well. Twist out the baffle tube by turning 1/4 turn clockwise. Remove any hair or debris wrapped around baffle tube. Baffle tube can be rinsed if needed. Allow to dry thoroughly.
7. Remove the hose from both ends. Use a broom stick to loosen and remove any clogs from the main hose.
8. Remove the bottom plate and the brushes as instructed in the owner's manual. Use a wooden spoon or something similar to gently break up and remove any clogs from the lower hose.
9. Inspect the belt for damages, if the belt is broken replace the belt with a Genuine Hoover belt part 562633001 Flat Belt Nano Upright

If the filters are too dirty they may need to be replaced. With regular maintenance the filters should be replaced about once a year. Follow the links below to order replacement filters for your UH20020.

My dc01 wand wont pick up

Hi Davina,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty with your DC01. If your machine doesn't seem to be picking up as well as it should be via the hose, there may be a blockage somewhere in the machine. The filters may also need to be washed or replaced.

To check for any blockages, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:

http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc01/dc01-standard/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual1/clean-the-shroud
In normal use, the filters should be washed at least once every 3 months, as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow the filters to dry completely somewhere warm for at least 12 hours before replacing them.

This should resolve the issue, but if you'd like any further assistance or advice, please give us a call on 0800 298 0298. Our Helpline is available from 7am until 10pm, 7 days a week, and calls are free from UK landlines.

Best wishes,

Have an old upright that does not pickup dirt. The beater bar runs but the suction motor doesn't. Do not know how to disasemble upright.

I don't recommend taking it apart yourself. The problem could be a switch, wiring, or connection. The motor could also be bad. I strongly recommend taking it to an authorized Aerus Electrolux store for a free diagnosis. Let a trained service tech fix the problem. Just be prepared for them trying to give a sales spiel. That's their job.
You can also call the shop and ask for someone to come pick it up. There should be no pick up and delivery charge. Just make sure in either case you get a copy of a work sheet with the type, model, and serial number recorded. This avoids possible confusion in the shop as to which vacuum is whose. The service tech will call you with an estimate for repair.
Disassembly is tricky, and reassembly even more so.

This is an indication that the intake is clogged. Needs disassembly and cleaning.

DYSON IS JUST 6 MO OLD AND IS NOT PICKING UP DIRT AS IT SHOULD. WHAT SHOULD I DO

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

Firstly check that the pre filter has been cleaned. this should be washed at least once every 6 months, more often if you use your machine regularly.

It would also be worth following the full blockage procedure as outlined in the user guide or in the Support section on our website at www.dyson.com.

If you are still experiencing difficulties, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Not picking up dirt.

There is a Clog in the machine...
Somewhere between the motor and the bag.
When you use the machine, the dirt picked up by the roller has no place to go but backwards.
You will need to disassemble it and look for the clog.

My dyson cyclone assembly will not spin when it...

I have 2 dyson dc07. The cyclone assembly will not spin when dirt is picked up, but when I change them out the vacuum is fine, so I know it is the cyclone assembly. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Dyson DC07 Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum.

It sounds to me that you may have a clog but when you said you changed them out the vacuum is fine, so a couple of things, if the vacuum is still under a factory warranty of 1 or 2 years the cyclone assm still would be under a factory warranty. If it is over the 1 or 2 years then you would have to replace the cyclone assm but you may want to check with the Dyson Factory Tech Support / customer Service line as per the problem, and they can ship you the part from the factory or to check with your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area and they may have one in stock or they can order one for you. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Hepa filter on dyson dc01

Not sure about you model, but some of the dyson's have the hepa filter under the dirt container. Remove the container, there is a cover that comes off and the filter is under that cover.

Bissell Model 3593-2 Upright purchased 3 years ago not drawing up dirt as it use to

Check where there is suction...is there good suction at the hose...at the back of the vacuum. Knowing where there is good suction will help you know where there might be a clog or any resistance. Bissell also has a fairly good customer support line...I believe the phone number might be on the vaccuum possibly in the back.
