When I turn on my Canon ir 1018 it doesn't stop heating. i.e it doesn't get ready for photocopying. It keeps on turning but doesn't stop in order to get ready.

Is it when you use the top document feeder? Check the scanner strip for white out of marks.

the system software is crashed ( firmware ) and to fix this you need to upload new system software or replace dc controler.

Toner level might be very low.replace toner cartraige.

to reset the error:

Enter the service mode:
press asterix key ( add. functions ) "*"
press 2
press 8
press asterix key ( add. functions ) "*"

With right arrow, go to CLEAR, press OK, with arrow choose ERR and OK.

Turn off and on.

If these doesn't helps, you need to replace fixing heater.

there is something wrong with your copier's fixing unit.FIxing unit is located on upper side of drum unit.you can see when you open copier left door.a caution about heat is displayed there.the main reason of this error is your fixing unit heater not working or its heat is not detected by thermisters.
check all connection , check heater status,check thermister contact or wiring .replace heater or replace fixing unit.
