I have an Indesit 1400 model WIXL143, washing machine, which is about 3 and a bit years old. It sounds like a tank when its on spin, and makes a grinding noise also. Its also making the washing dirty through the drum, with what looks like oil. Can the drum bearings be replaced on this model? If so, is there a part number so I can order them

SOURCE: Bearing noise on Indesit WDG1295

you will have to open the machine lid to see if its a plastic drum or metal.
the metal drum is easier as it has a 'spider asssembly'. remove this after taking off the pulley by taking out the bolts that hold it and bang it off being carefull of the heater element. remove the bearings and seal and refit in reverse order you took it off.
i would not advise replacing plastic drum bearings as they are a pain, removal of the rear of a plastic drum easy but not putting it back !

SOURCE: grinding noise

The Neptune bearings are an interesting breed... Maytag wants you to replace the whole outer tub which includes the bearings installed for $180 or so. You can replace the bearings yourself. See www.tonytool.com to see how it is done. The tool costs $379 or so... but it is designed for the service tech. not the d.i.y.er. But watching the video can give you an idea of how to do it yourself. The bearings were available on www.neptunewaxmotor.com for about $35.00. You will also need the Maytag seal kit 12002022 to complete the job whether you decide to replace bearings or the outer tub.

SOURCE: indesit wash machine drum bearing

Some models like the WE12 have sealed drums where the bearings can't be changed. You have to buy a complete unit for about £120.

Indesit wixl143 broken I try to start a wash it sounds like it should as I can hear water but it's not going into the drum and the door lock light is flashing rapidly along with the extra rinse light

Suggest you take the back off and home in on the water input filter. They are often gunged up with lime scale. Do pull the plug on it before you attack it with a wrench etc.

Indesit machine won't start

on the bottom of the machine there is a panel made of plastic that may be removed to expose the waste filter.open the waste filter and check that the waste pump is not blocked as in the initial start up the pump is run if there is a problem with the pump the machine will not advance.

Irregular banging during cycle

these washers are a swine to dis-assemble and i would not recommend it unless you are experienced. on most indesit, the bearings are in a spider bolted to the outside of the tub. take the back off and see if you can localise the noise to the bearings worthwhile also taking the heater out (one nut in the middle), peer in and check no foreign object causing the noise
