It must be clogged as I have water (turning to ice) and building up in my freezer section (which is located at the bottom of the refrigerator). And how do I clean out the drain pipe? Hi,
You have a common problem of a clogged drain, in the back bottom of the freezer, behind the shelf and drawers, you will find a drain pan that has frozen completely over with a ice sheet. This has caused defrost water to run forward and collect under your racks in the freezer. I would advice you to turn off unit, and remove all the ice collected in the freezer, clear the pan with warm water, then restart your unit back up.
Once the pan and drain tube is clear, your unit should be fine.
I hope this helps

Ice build up on bottom freezer

Ice build up on the freezer floor alone, with no ice on shelves or food above the floor, usually indicates a clogged defrost drain problem. when your unit goes into defrost, the melt water is intended to go down a drain tube from the freezer to a pan on the outside bottom of the unit, usually near the compressor. Sometimes these drains are clogged with food debris, other times some of the melt water does not completely drain, and freezes - this build up of ice can then clog the drain. You can unplug the fridge, with both doors open and a fan blowing for 24 hours to temporarily remove the ice and water, but it will return most likely, in which case you would need to have the drain cleared out and / or have a drain heater installed by a qualified refrigerator repair service.

I'm getting water underneath my crispers. Can you tell me what the problem is? It is a bottom freezer Amana. Thanks

Your refrigerator has a drain that leads to the exterior drain pan beneath the refrigerator. Occasionally this drain can become clogged resulting in standing water inside your refrigerator. A similar drain exists in the freezer, which when clogged results in ice build up on the floor of the freezer.

The drain is located either on the floor of the refrigerator, beneath the vegetable crisper, or in the wall behind a drain funnel.

Clear the drain by forcing a solution of water and bleach or water and baking soda into it with a basting syringe. If the solution will not flow through, slide a length of ¼ inch flexible tubing into the drain tube to push the clog through to the drain pan. Remove the tubing after clearing the clog.

NOTE-(This may be a leveling issue as well)

It is important for the refrigerator to be level. If it is not level, doors may not open or close properly and may not seal tightly. Also, drainage from the defrost cycle might be impaired as might the ice making cycle. The appliance was engineered based on it being installed in a level position. While there may be some tolerance for out-of-level installation, the appliance will operate at its best when properly leveled.

Place a level on top of the refrigerator near the front. Do not put it on the door because the door may not be aligned with the refrigerator case. Check that the refrigerator is level from side to side. Next turn the level to check that it is level from front to back.

If it is not level, adjust one or more of the adjustable leveling feet until it is level. The feet are bolts that can be turned to raise or lower the refrigerator. If they cannot be adjusted with your fingers, use a crescent wrench or pliers.

If you have an ice-maker, it should also be checked for level after first leveling the refrigerator. An ice-maker that is out of level will spill water into the ice bin or into the freezer. It can be repositioned by loosening the mounting screws, adjusting it for level and then re-tightening the screws.

I have an amana side by side refrigerator. The ice is building up

There is a drain hole under all of that ice that got clogged at some point and it started building up ice in that area.  The water that is freezing is coming from the defrost cycle which melts all of the ice buildup on the evaporator coil.  First melt the ice.  Then unclog the drain hole.  The drain goes to a tray in back near the compressor, where the heat from the compressor evaporates the water.

Amana bottom freezer: water leaking & ice build-up

There should be some kind of drain at bottom of freezer compartment to collect and run off any condensate that collects during defrost cycle.. Clean out the drain and snake out the line that leads from it. Right now the liquid is collecting where it should not and it will leak out the gasket when you have enough of it.

WATER IN BOTTOM OF FREEZER/TURNS TO ICE FRS28XGCB

its probably the automatic defrost cycle.there should be a drain in the bottom of your freezer, and it must be clogged. The automatic defrost keeps ice from building up in your freezer by melting it,and letting the water run out the drain. If the drain is blocked by something or clogged the water collects, and refreezes. You need to unblock the drain.
