Get a copy of the Repair Part List for your model at Kitchenaid.com
Grease inside the Planetary Assembly (the shaft is tight fit to the Planetary
plate at the factory and is not designed to be taken apart, so do not use
any hard object such as a screwdriver to separate them) over times can
turn to liquid and leak down the bowl. Removing the Planetary assembly
and adding Kitchenaid Food Grade Grease is not a task for a novice.
To properly remove the Planetary Assembly, you must work from inside
the Transmission Housing: Remove in this order: Retaining Clip(25), Bevel Gear(21),
Retaining Pin(18), Worm Follower Gear(19). Use a soft mallet to tap out the Shaft
of the Planetary Assembly(15). Re-assemble it in the reverse order.
Note: The Bevel Gear is extremely tightly fit on the shaft, and a pin punch
must be used to remove from the shaft.

Hi. The grease that your mixers are lubricated with has reached a stage where the oil is leaching away from the grease. All your machines need this grease changed. Shell Darina EP-2 or Chevron FM ALC EP-2. These machines need to be internally cleaned and re-greased. It's important to remove the oil from any place that it drips. The planetary gear must be removed, cleaned and re-greased also. It's a messy job, but you can do it yourself if you're familiar enough with machinery. If not, then a suitable service outlet can easily do it.
If you choose to do it, go to the Kitchenaid website and locate the parts files for your particular model, these drawings will assist greatly with the project. I have the same problem. It is not oil, but the oil residue from the grease that surrounds the gear box. There is a very heavy grease that is wrapped around the gears. I am assuming that the leak is the broken down grease that seeped out from the gasket. Here is what I did: Remove the chrome ring(pound down on it gently, it will come off very easily) remove the pin on the shaft. Clean all the oil out of the assembly. Remove the motor cover. Remove all the screws from the large gear(about 5 of them)this will allow ou to pull the top of the mixer off. There are 2 screws holding the band around the mixer, remove them. There are 4 screws holding the top of the mixer to the bottom, remove them. You should be able to lift the top of the mixer off. Remove the black gasket, inspect it for cracks. I cleaned mine and put the same one back on. I thing all that was wrong was the screws were loose letting the grease leak out. It runs fine now. no leaks yet. if the oil is black or dark green this is the transmission grease. There is plenty in the case don't worry. You may have a cracked transmission case or a bad gassket. I think the most likely thing is a loose screw or two. Take the trim band off, 1 screw. Then take the 4 screws that hold the cover on. You can now lift the top and take a look for the sourse of the leak

Hi Tim. Don't try to pour anything into the side openings, these openings are for the electrical brushes. You didn't state what model you have so my help is limited. Goto www.kitchenaid.com and click on the customer care tab. Enter your mixer's model# into the search window. Look for a parts catalog for your mixer. If there is one, download it.
Your mixer uses grease to lubricate it. If it's leaking oil, the oil and old grease must be removed and replaced. Chevron FM ALC EP-2 is a "Food Grade" grease, use it to replace the old stuff. The transmission housing and Planetary assembly will have to be removed to accomplish this. It's a messy, but necessary task. Once completed, run the mixer for a few minutes each week to keep the oil suspended in the grease, this will extend the life of the new lube. Good luck!

I called the 800 service number when mine did the same thing. They advised to:
1. Use the processor more frequently to avoid this in the future; and
2. To fun the motor on speed setting "10" for two minutes.
A harmless vegetable grease, normally solid, has separated due to infrequent use and leaked a bit ( a few tablespoons in my case). Running the motor on high speed causes it to re-solidify, they said. Wipe clean. Forget about it.
