MP610 Scanner Not Working

All cables are attached.  Other functions working fine.  Whenever I select scan and press the "start" key (the two buttons on the right-hand side, one says "black" and the other says "color"), nothing works.  After selecting "scan", I receive the prompt to "place document on platen glass and press (insert button symbol)", but when I press the button -- either the one for black, the one for color, or both of them together -- nothing happens.
TIA for any help.

I just hooked mine up today and have the same problem! Have you figured out what to do yet?

  • Anonymous Oct 02, 2008

Same problem but with Mac OS X. Maddening. I can see the scanned image on my Screen using Image Capture, but the [Scan] button on the Mac is grayed out and no button on the printer/scanner will make anything happen. It just sits there. I went to Canon's website and downloaded the latest driver for my OS, but that didn't do anything.

Also, this same error appears on the Apple site and it hasn't been answered there either. Very frustrating!

The issue for me is that my computer doesn't even recognize the scan driver... I can print, so the printer is definitely connected, but it won't scan

I am having the same problem. Would switching from Windows XP to 7 cause this? Does 'something' need to be downloaded?

I was having the same problem as the original poster of this thread, where nothing was happening, and this was what i did:

using a mac, i:

- spotlight searched "image capture" (that's what it's called) and opened up the app
- it somehow "woke up" my printer, aka connected the printer to the app, and it would scan the overview, but not scan the final selection that i made. see comnomad's post if you don't know the difference between overview vs. scan.
- so i restarted my printer
- i then did the overview, selected the parts that i wanted, and scanned it again

tada!

I had this same problem too. It took me a while to figure it out - not to mention surfing the web for a bunch of sites all with people writing about the same problem. I downloaded the latest driver, checked all the cables, hit every support website I could find, etc. Nothing worked. Then I did +one little thing+ and it worked. I'm assuming that you figured out the problem by now, it's kind of silly.

When you open Image Capture it projects an image from the scanner to your screen. But *YOU* still have to go to the image and select what you want to scan. When you place your cursor on the image and then click and drag, you're capturing the area that you want scanned. When you do this you will see all the dimensions of the scan area captured in the Scan Setup box to the right of the image. You can manually go in and change the dimensions to match the material your scanning (8x10, 4x6, 8.5x11, etc) as well as adjust the resolution or increase or decrease the size.

Once you get it figured out it works pretty slick. Unfortunately the directions aren't very obvious and the interface on the printer is a bit misleading. Hope this works for you (and anyone else who suffered this issue).

This seems to be a USB issue. I had exactly the same problem, switched to a different USB port, and everything worked perfectly.

I had the same problem. The solution is to go into Control Panel, then select Devices And Printers, then select the Canon Inkjet icon, then select Scan Photo Or Documents. This worked for Windows 7.

I HAVE THE X47850 SCANER HOW DO I SET THE SCANER CODE SO I CAN SCAN?

Hello.

You don't need a scanner code (pin ?) to scan. Here are the steps from Lexmark Support:

Step Action 1 Make sure the printer is configured to scan over a network. 2 Load an original document face down on the scanner glass. 3
From the control panel, press pattlnk_1182007_1150-uparrow.gif or pattlnk_1182007_1146-downarrow.gif repeatedly until Scan is highlighted. 4
Press pattlnk_1182007_1151-selectbutton.gif. 5
Press pattlnk_1182007_1150-uparrow.gif or pattlnk_1182007_1146-downarrow.gif repeatedly until the computer you want to scan to is highlighted. 6
Press pattlnk_1182007_1151-selectbutton.gif. 7
If you set a PIN during network setup and are being prompted for it:

  1. Enter the PIN using pattlnk_1182007_1151-leftarrow.gif and pattlnk_1182007_1152-rightarrow.gif to select a digit location and using pattlnk_1182007_1150-uparrow.gif and pattlnk_1182007_1146-downarrow.gif to select a value for that digit.

  2. Press pattlnk_1182007_1151-selectbutton.gif.
8
Wait until the printer has finished downloading the scan applications list. 9
Make your selections using the control panel buttons. 10
Press the green Start button (pattlnk_1182007_1144-scan%20start%20small.gif).

Hope this helps.

Hello am using sharp ar165 m copier machine .and am installing my pc also but scaner is not working please help me.

How are you doing? In order for scanner to work in all multi-functional printers, you must install all functions. While installing printer Sharp Ar165m, it will ask you if you need to install scanner and you must select that box otherwise it will install printer alone. Also there is an option where you are to configure the button keys on scanner function, please configure the buttons while installing. This will allow you to press scanner key on the copier to start scanning without necessarily selecting from the computer otherwise --- will appear and nothing happens. So insert the software CD and remember to select scanning option.

Hi. To make sure that the product hardware is functioning correctly, use the product to make a photocopy. If you cannot make a copy, this solution will not help resolve the issue.

Solution 1:
Follow these steps to restart the product and the computer. NOTE: Make sure that the product connects directly to an electrical outlet and not through a surge protector or power strip.
  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Press the Power button to turn off the product.
  3. Wait 10 seconds.
  4. Restart the computer.
  5. Press the Power button to turn the product back on.
  6. Try the scan again
Solution 2

1. Replace the USB cable.
2 .Try the scan again.

Solution 3
Fully uninstall and resintall the software and driver of Kodak printer

Workaround:

Try installing the printer to Windows XP environment just to prove functionality and test incompatibility issues. Might be your printer is icompatible with MAC OS. This will also prove if printer is working or not.

How to tell what the buttons do?

The HOLD key lets you freeze the scanner on an active channel. For instance, if the scanner stops on channel 3, and there's a lot of action there. you can press HOLD to lock the scanner on that channel until you press the SCAN key. Repeatedly pressing the HOLD key will manually advance the selected channel.

SCAN releases a HOLD asnd will also take the unit out of PROGRAM or SEARCH modes and start it scanning the frequencies that you've programmed.

FUNCTION selects the secondary (lower) function of a key. For example, pressing FUNCTION and then the E (ENTER) key will switch the scanner to Pgm (Programming) mode - which lets you enter and store frequencies into the unit's memory so that you can scan them later.

All keyboard functions are explained in detail in the scanner operating manual, which you can download/print here:

http://www.uniden.com/pdf/BC92XLTom.pdf

For a comprehensive database of active frequencies in your area, along with a lot of other useful scanning information, visit:

Sounds like you may have accidentally pressed the "LOCK" button. If there's a "key" icon showing, press the LOCK button at the bottom left of your keyboard, and hold it in until the icon disappears. In case you need it, here is a link to the operating manual for your scanner:

My copier and printer work just fine but cannot get the scanner to work at all...I have followed the instructions precisely. Isobel

Okay so the copy and print function works, but you can't scan to your computer?
Are all the drivers installed?

all the drivers etc are available at http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=2613&modelid=15603#DownloadDetailAct

To test scanning, follow these steps
press start and select run to open run menu OR
hold down windows key and press R to open the run menu

in run type: mspaint and press ok

in the paint program that just opened click File and select from scanner or camera, scan a page and get back to me with results.

make sure the drivers are all installed. If you can copy with the printer (without the use of a computer) then the printer is perfectly fine and it comes down to settings or missing drivers on the computer.
