Sears kenmore model 110 20702990 turn machine on,no water coming in.Checked lid safety switch,switch ok.Jumpered lid safety switch,no water coming in to machine.But if i turn dial to rinse, water comes into machine.turn dial to spin cycle water continues coming in machine.just installed brand new timer switch.same results with new vs old timer switch

That's an odd one. I would say timer, but if you already replaced that, then that leaves water valve and pressure Switch.

Manually move the timer to the SPIN mode and turn it on.
If nothing happens, replace the lid switch.
With a model number I could be more specific.

SOURCE: GE washer no main motor run so no agitate or spin

This is the electronic washer. Unplug for two minutes, plugin then open and close lid 7 times. This will reset motor. Also make sure belt is not broken.

If your clothes are still wet after a spin cycle it can indicate that you may have either a drainage issue and the water is coming back into the machine after the spin, or your drain pump has broken some or all of its impellers that force the water out. i hope you found this useful.

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

If you lift the lid, put it down again and the washer begins to spin, the problem is likely in the transmission "Neutral Drain Assembly".

Those cams/gears etc. in that assembly keep the washer from spinning until all of the water is pumped out and then go into spin mode.

Apparently, by opening and closing the lid, torque from the motor starting throws the cams into the right gears so that the washer will spin.

Ours had the same problem, no spin unless the lid was raised and lowered or we shut off and re-started the cycle.

After looking at the transmission parts list (available on a number of sites) and on the Whirlpool site (Whirlpool makes Kenmore) we noticed that the one of the cams in the neutral assembly which is supposed to have a small spring, didn't on ours when we tore the transmission apart again

Found the part number for a kit (Whirlpool part number 388253 Neutral Assembly) for $15.00 and replaced the cams and gears.

In order to get the transmission out, you have to remove the cabinet, the fabric dispenser and both agitators. The top agitator uses a plastic 1/2" drive bolt. You don't have to remove the drum.

Lay the machine down (after disconnecting power and hoses, remove the pump (two clips), the motor (two screws hold two clips on the motor), lift and set the motor aside, remove two 1/2 inch bolts for the motor mounting plate and three 1/2 inch bolts for the transmission. Pull the transmission, remove the clutch (there is a spring clip that holds the clutch on the main agitator shaft, remove the 8 screws carefully the transmission holds 14 - 15Oz of oil, remove the clip holding the main spin
gear on and check the plastic cams.

If the cam that should have a spring doesn't, or the others look damaged, the washer won't go into spin mode.

If that's the problem, install a Neutral drain kit, put everything back together carefully and the problem may be solved.

All told, fixing ours cost less than $30 including about 16 oz. of 80-90 weight gear oil (from an auto parts store) instead of $170 plus service for a new transmission.

:) ok do this,,unplug the machine .. pop the lid up, not the door , the whole lid,, you will see where the safety switch is,, this is just a pass through switch and can either be jumpered or by passed to check them, locate the plug connection for the switch ,, use a wire to make a U shape and push one end of each end into the connector ( one in each side,, make sure that the 2 wires don't touch,, ) and remember to do this to the side of the machine, Not the part that goes back to the switch,, then plug the machine back in, and set it to the spin cycle,, if this works, just replace the switch

With my old washer I was able to open the lid and it continued agitating. My new one does not allow me to open the lid while it is agitating. Is there a locking mechanism?
Whirlpool / Kenmore washers use a "Lid Switch" as a safety device.

On older models the switch would stop the spin cycle when the lid is raised.

Newer models stop both the Agitate and Spin cycles.

Kenmore Model# 110.25842400
Yes that is the correct lidswitch. (i checked via model # on sears.com) Before you replace the switch, Turn the washer manually into spin and see if it will. If it spins your lid switch is ok. If there is a humming after the washer fills then your motor is bad. It trys to work but cant. if it does nothing after it fills then you have a bad timer most likely. But see if it will spin when you turn the timer to spin manually.
