How does the average consumer get a copy of the service bulletin? Sears wants me to schedule a service call first. This refrigerator should be recalled. The web has many complaints about the same problem.
If you have a Sears model with the model number beginning with 795 the unit was built bt LG. You can check with LG. However, if you have the problem with the interior light staying on, LG and Sears will honor that problem as a warranty call going back 3 years. No cost to you. call Sears and arrange the call.
Officially, there is NO "recall" on the unit. It was only the beginning of august that a Service note was distributed. Call Sears at the "1-800 -4- my home" number and tell them you have your lights staying on and you want it repired under their Service flash "sf46-515" that says this particular problem is covered going back 3 years. I hope your unit was bought in the last 3 years. There is no charge for this, however, you may be quoted service charges as it may initally be set a collect call.
The switch's are not the problem and don't need to be replaced. The Service flash tells the tech what to do according to the model number. The light assembly in the ref section should be changed and they may or may not change the main board, again this is according to model number

The interior lamp switch is in the ON position.
?€¢
The keyless entry transmitter unlocks the doors (illuminated entry).
When the key is removed from the ignition switch with all of the doors closed, the courtesy lights light for approximately 25 seconds before fading out.
Battery positive voltage (B+) is applied at all times through the IP fuse block CTSY LP/PWR MIR fuse 6A via CKT 640 (ORN) through the body control module (MALL) to the courtesy lights via CKT 1732 (ORN). The MALL provides a ground through CKT 156 (WHT) for the courtesy lights under the following conditions:
?€¢
The MALL receives an input from a door being opened.
?€¢
The MALL receives an input from the interior lamp being turned ON.
?€¢
The MALL receives an input from the doors being unlocked using the keyless entry transmitter.
The courtesy lamps then light.
When the courtesy lights are activated by opening and closing a door, the courtesy lights will remain on for approximately 25 seconds before fading out after all of the doors are closed. If the ignition switch is turned to START or RUN within the 25 seconds, the lights immediately begin to fade out. If a door is left open, the MALL removes battery positive voltage (B+) to the courtesy lights after 10 minutes. When the courtesy lights are activated by the interior lamp switch, the lights remain on as long as the interior lamp switch is in the ON position. When the courtesy lights are activated by unlocking the doors using the keyless entry transmitter, the lights remain on for approximately 40 seconds. If the doors are locked using the keyless entry transmitter within the 40 seconds, the lights immediately begin to fade out.

Great news. However, I just got off the phone with Sears Warranty service, who forwarded me to their recall department. I was informed that there is no recall for this problem. I called the following number: 1-800-469-4663. Any ideas who I should contact next? The model number is 795.77309600. This problem is a definite safety and potential fire hazard. Please advise. Thank you.
I just got off the phone with Sears (1-800-4-MY-HOME). I gave "Kendra" the Service Flash "SF46-515". After some checking she scheduled a service technician for next Friday (9/12/2008). I asked what is the fix. She said it is usually the switch. I read that the problem is the control board. Do you know what the fix is? Also, I read that if the refrigerator is powered off then back on, that the lights will shut off when the doors are closed. There was a brief power outage in my neighborhood over the weekend. When the power came back "on", I tried the lights and now they work. How is the service technician going to diagnose the problem. The lights have been working for the past 5 days. I hate intermittent problems. Does the Service Flash tell the technician what to replace? There are two doors on the frig. Each door has its own switch. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.
I have a Kenmore Elite Model # 795.77543600 manufactured date July
2006, purchased in Dec. 2006. I spoke with Terresa at Once Source and
she provided me with a case number and $150 credit towards service and
labor and up to $100 credit in parts but capped at $250. I called
(1-800-4-MY-HOME) and received the run around from 3 different
non-English speaking phone representatives which made communication
horrific. So, now I wait until Thursday Sept. 25, 2008 between 1 PM and
5 PM for a service technician to tell me what the problem is and why my
light housing is melted and the two lighting sockets a charred brownish
black from an obvious electrical circuit problem or the main computer
brain board is shot! I hope Sears, Kenmoore or LG stands by their
products and fixes this at no charge because had this thing caught on
fire and burnt my $350,000 house down I am sure there would be some
serious subrogation and litigation law suits in regards to their faulty
products.
My Kenmore Elite, model 795/77543600 was purchased in Jan 2007. On 3/26/09, we had the same problem. The light casing is burned looking and the light cover is melted. Food on the top shelf was warm and butter in top shelf of the door was melted. I called for a repair and the first appointment is five days from now. This should be a recall before someone's house burns down.
Same thing happened to us today, melted plastic light protector. We called Sears and they could care less. Does someone have to die before they will do something about this. We trust that Sears sells good products and stands behind them. After all the years of purchasing thru them this is it.
