Washing Machine Fault Codes These fault codes are written for washing machine repairers and not for the general public and they assume a certain level of competence on the part of the user in diagnostic routines. I have added some notes to try to assist you in determining the nature of the fault you have but, you will still need to investigate each failure on its own merits. Please check that any washing machine spares recommended are suitable for use on your particular model and serial number. Please, don't guess or assume as spares can be altered on a production run with the same model number having several different alternative components used. E1 Not filling in allocated time This is essentially a fill timeout error which will normally mean that either the water isn't on or that an inlet valve has failed. We do list the generic water inlet valves for Samsung washing machines in this section and, if you're clever you can use one of those by altering the connections but, if you need the genuine one specific to your model please contact us. E2 Pump won't empty - not draining As usual with these error codes for not draining the first thing to do is check the pump filter. When replacing the drain pump there are two basic options, the genuine one from your manufacturer or the cheap version which is essentially the same pump. Also see below about detergent use as it applies to drain errors as well as overfill error codes. E3 Overflow - overfilling with water This fault code tells you that the washing machine has detected an overfill situation and, usually, they will stop and drain for safety then report the error code above. This error can be caused by poor quality detergent or overdosing detergent both leading to excessive foam. This foam traps air in the pressure sensor hose and falsifies the error of an overfill. If this is the case, if you leave the machine for an hour or so and try it again it should then be clear but, whatever you do when you try it again do not put more detergent in the machine. If this solves it, adjust the detergent quantity or switch to a better quality detergent to prevent it happening again. E4 Out Of Balance (OOB) detected This is basically an imbalanced wash load detected that the machine has failed to sort out on its own and therefore couldn't spin to the full speed. Just sort the load and try it again. E5 Water temp rising or falling too quickly Normally an NTC temperature sensor or wiring to the sensor that's faulty. E6 Water temp rising or falling too quickly As above. E7 Pressure switch The error code is telling you that there is an error or fault somewhere in the pressure switch circuit, this could be the switch itself, the wiring or the main control module. E8 Temp too high on low temp washes Normally this will be the wash temperature thermistor or NTC that's faulty, please contact us if you need the thermistor with the model and serial number. E9 Water leak, Water level has reduced Basically this fault code means that the water level has dropped while the machine has been running so, it's either a leak, faulty pressure sensor, wiring, water escaping to the drain or the control PCB. EA Motor tacho generator error Self explanatory fault code. Most manufacturers do not supply parts for their motors, only full motors and they can be model specific. EB Motor triac error As above. EC Thermistor A thermistor is a type of resistor whose resistance varies significantly with temperature, more so than in standard resistors. The word is a portmanteau of thermal and resistor. Thermistors are widely used as inrush current limiters, temperature sensors, self-resetting over-current protectors, and self-regulating heating elements. Thermistors differ from resistance temperature detectors (RTD) in that the material used in a thermistor is generally a ceramic or polymer, while RTDs use pure metals. The temperature response is also different; RTDs are useful over larger temperature ranges, while thermistors typically achieve a higher precision within a limited temperature range [usually 90 °C to 130 °C]. As fault code E8 ED Door Open Close the door and restart the program! my zanussi zwd1251w wasshing machine won't start, all the setting lights are on but when i press start it just bleeps and flashes ERR it does the same if i press the reset button... it just seems stuck for some reason.. please can anyone help, i'm a single dad with a ppile of kids wahing..

These are some of the most common fault codes for Zanussi washing machine models as well as other Electrolux Group produced brands such as AEG, Arthur Martin, Tricity Bendix, John Lewis and Electrolux obviously.
If these fault codes apply to your machine is should have a fascia panel on it like one of those shown below, there are fifteen known variants covering quite literally hundreds of different models sold in the UK and across the EU.

If it is the latter then you will see a pattern to the flashes if you look closely it will be a series of rapid flashes followed by a pause and then the series of flashes will be repeated, this is the error code being displayed. If you count the number of flashes being given then you use that number to correspond to the fault code, for example, ten flashes would be fault code A, but we will explain how to read the fault code.
Reading The Fault Code On Non-Digital Zanussi Washing Machines EMW1000 Proceed as follows to read the last alarm condition stored in the EEPROM on the control board.
Irrespective of the type of control board and configuration, turn the programme selector clockwise to the tenth position. See below for details of entering diagnostics mode.
NOTE: These are the engineer codes displayed after entering the configuration/diagnostics mode.
To enter diagnostics:
  1. Switch off the appliance
  2. Press and hold down START/PAUSE and any one of the option buttons simultaneously
  3. Holding down both buttons switch the appliance on by turning the programme selector one position to the right (clockwise)
  4. Continue to hold down the START/PAUSE and option buttons until the LED begins to flash (at least 2 seconds)
In the first selector position, the operation of the buttons and the relative Led's is checked; turning the selector knob clockwise activates the diagnostics cycle for the operation of the various components and displays any alarm conditions.
Displaying The Error Code The alarm is displayed by a repeated flashing sequence of the two LEDs (0.4 seconds ON, 0.4 seconds OFF, with a pause of 2.5 seconds between each sequence).
The buzzer (if fitted) sounds a series of "beeps" in synchronization with the flashing of the LEDs.
"End of cycle" indicator indicates the first digit of the fault code
"Start Pause" indicator shows the second digit of the fault code
These two LEDs are present on all models (though configured in different positions) and flash simultaneously.
Notes:
The first letter of the alarm code "E" (Error) is ignored as it is the same for all alarm codes.
The fault code families are expressed in hexadecimal form. In other words:
A is represented by 10 flashes
B is represented by 11 flashes
F is represented by 15 flashes
Configuration errors are displayed by the flashing of all the LEDs which means that user interface not configured and you will require an engineer to reprogram the electronic controller or replace it. This is not a DIY repair.
Example Of A Fault Code Display Example: Alarm E43 (problems with the door safety interlock triac) will be displayed as follows:
Four flashes of the "End of cycle" indicate the first digit "4" of code E43
Three flashes of the "Start Pause" indicate the second digit, "3" of the code E43
Zanussi Electronic Controller Replacement Against a number of the fault codes for these machines you will see that we recommend that you get an appliance engineer to do it and that it isn't a DIY repair. The reason for this is that in order to replace many of these electronic modules it is required that the board is programmed and this is beyond the scope of a DIY repair as well as most unskilled people not involved in appliance repairs.
It is also the case that reprogramming these boards can be model specific, due to the particular features used on that washing machine or washer dryer and that incorrect installation and programming will result in a dead board. Due to the high risk of people programming the replacement board incorrectly we will not offer instructions to the general public on how to carry this out, apart from which Electrolux might get a bit upset if we did.
Most of our approved repairers and all Service Force agents will be able to carry out these sorts of repairs for you at a reasonable cost.
If they make a mistake they have to pay for a replacement board, if you make a mistake then it would be you paying for it and it's not worth the risk.

Please check that any Zanussi washing machine spares recommended are suitable for use on your particular model and PNC number. If you are unsure about the suitability of any spare part please ask to ensure that you get the correct spares for your washing machine or washer dryer. Please, don't guess or assume as spares can be altered on a production run with the same model number having several different alternative components used.
Most models with the single control or display (EWM1000) PCB. The EWM2000 PCB is used on the AEG machines and there is very probably a huge crossover in the information between these two.
E11 Difficulty in filling during wash phase This is usually your basic filling error so the usual should be checked, that the water supply is switched on and then onto the water fill valves.
E13 Water leakage detected This is only applicable where a leak detection system is fitted.
E21 Difficulties in draining, drain error Basic drain error, check the drain pump filter is clear and also the drain pump is actually working.
E23 Malfunction of drain pump triac This refers to the triac that controls the pump function on the main controller.
E24 Sensing circuit of the component (triac) that controls the drain pump faulty As above.
E33 Incongruous between closure of anti-boiling and 1st level contacts of pressure switch This is a pressure switch or sensor fault and we would not recommend you attempt to DIY this fault.
E35 Water level too high Again, water pressure system fault and again, we wouldn't consider this to be a DIY repair.
E36 Sensing circuit of anti-boiling pressure switch faulty As above.
E37 Sensing circuit of 1st level pressure switch faulty As above
E39 HV sensing circuit of anti-overflow pressure switch faulty As Above
E40 Door open, door interlock, wiring or main PCB Usually a door lock that's faulty.
E41 Door open Close the door!
E42 Problems with aperture of the door Pretty much the same as E40 and E41 fault codes.
E43 Problems with the triac which actions the door interlock Again, this refers to the triac on the electronic controller and you should seek an engineer as it is not a DIY repair.
E44 Door closure sensing circuit faulty As E40, E41 and E42.
E45 Problems with the sensing circuit of the triac that actions the door interlock As E43.
E51 Motor power triac short-circuited Yet again, this refers to the triac on the electronic controller and not a DIY job.
E52 No signal from the motor tachometric generator Tacho coil on the motor is most probably faulty. This coil reads a magnet as the motor turns to detect the speed that the motor is spinning at and this in turn allows the electronic controller to set the motor to revolve at different speeds for the various program options.
E53 Problems with the sensing circuit of the triac which powers the motor Another one that is a fault being reported on the electronic controller and not a DIY repair.
E54 Motor relay contacts sticking As above.
E61 Insufficient heating during washing Usually a heater failure but possibly the thermostat or NTC temperature sensor or wiring to either.
E62 Overheating during washing As above only the heater will likely be okay.
