SOURCE: I have a model # RY39500 ryobi hedge trimmer 2
Sounds like the air screws need adjusted on the carburator. If there are 2 the one with the L above needs to be turned althe way to the right but not to tight and then backed out 1/2 turn to left. The one with the H anove it do the same except back it out 1 and 1/4 turns to left. If it only has 1 screw dot he same but back out 2 complete turns. Hope this helps?

Ryobis usually have carburetor or recoil unit problems. A gasket leak anywhere between the carb and the engine or the lower crankcase seal can cause a no start conditon. A blown gasket is not real common but they can occur. There is no "head" gasket but there are gaskets on both sides of the engine (intake and exhaust) and on the bottom of the cylinder where the jug mates with the crankcase. An easy one to check is the crankcase housing gasket. It is an O ring on a piece of plastic at the back and has 2 Torx-20 screws holding it in place. Check it to see if it is tight, then check carburetor bolts for tightness. The engine bolts have threadlocker on them from the factory and don't come loose. Post back. I want to help.
