Weather Protection We are considering to buy this tent for our coming family vacation, but I want to make sure it's properly water proof, can someone please remark on this from there experience with this tent?

It sounds like something got sprayed on the tent the last time it was used before it was put up. If it's never been used if it is a Coleman take it back and they will usually repair or replace it, As far as if it's not a major brand and you want to try to save it tou could try using simple green or something like that to get the sticky off. I'd have several days of dry warm weather though so it can dry good then I would get tent sealer most likely depending on how big the tent is and reseal it. Does not sound like any mold issue I have ever seen from putting a tent up wet .

In general, tents should be able to keep away a light drizzle but may not be waterproof in a downpour. If you know that you are camping in bad weather, you can buy tents made from better rain resistant material. You can buy a waterproof sealant from a hardware or camping shop and seal the joins on your tent. Make sure you use a groundsheet under your tent to add a protective layer.

How many people do you need your tent for?

A 2 person tent is actually quite cramped for 2 people and it might be better to invest in a 4 person tent.

Speak to people who have been camping and ask them how comfortable their tents were.

You also need to consider issues such as the material the poles are made from (aluminium is stronger), how big the rainfly is (this is the tent's umbrella) , vents, zippers and guy lines(these keep your tent attached to the ground).

Go to a camping shop and get feedback on all these issues before you rush out and buy.

Most of the tents can be heated to create a comfortable environment. Depending on the size of your tent and the outdoor temperature, I can recommend you to purchase an outside heater that will permit use of the tent in most any weather.

Go to an auto parts store and buy a fiberglass kit. Resin, hardener and cloth. Clean and rough the area. apply a coating of mixed resin, then a layer of cloth. Let it dry and repeat a couple of times. After you are satisfied with that get a gallon of Elastomeric, you will find it at Lowes/Home depot. Clean the entire top and apply 2 coats with a brush or roller about 24 hours apart. No rain or moisture for a couple of days. Project complete, water proof roof.
