My Samsung SF330 will send faxes but will not receive them. Having recognised the the fax signal from incoming faxes an error message comes up saying "no answer from remote fax".

is the number for incoming fax correct and setup properley

Is that a USB connected Lexmark unit?

connect a phone with 4521 in the back side jack of phoneout,
for outgoing fax
place original in the adf or glass for fax
Press hookdial and dial your sending fax number in 4521 after number dialing pull the phone handset to ear when you leason fax tone from the dialing number press start button to send fax.

for incoming fax (in not automoated)
press hook dial and press start to receive

RX and TX are 2 different things.
start with the basics
1- is there toner in the machine
2-if it is ink the cartridges may be dry

I am not really familiar with your machine, but have worked on faxes for 20 years. Most models are fax, fax/tel, and tel, meaning it is either or, or a combination. The function you seek was on many models with a built in answering machine. As the machine answered, you said in your message to press start now, or leave a message.

I would say, use your *9* solution with phone while you are there, but switch it to fax mode when you leave. Any regular call coming in at that time will not get answered anyway, but faxes would automatically be received. I know it is an extra step, but that would work.

If you anre able to send and receive fron other faxes, your equipment is fine. Tell your accountant to get his phone line checked. Finally, turn off the ECM (Error Correction Mode) in your unit.
