Good day , this are the steps on how to boot from a cd. 1.power up you computer and press the "f10" key and in some computer it can be the "delete" key.some pcs may require you to press the keys continuously. It will lead you to the "bios" configuration.
2. Scroll to the "system configuration "option .
3. Locate the "boot option" click on it .
4.locate the "boot order " part, then you will see things like first, second, third etc. Locate the "cd rom" and make it first . This will make the pc boot from the cd rom first.
5.you must save your changes, follow the bios instruction on how to save changes them your pc will restart automatically. Nb:make sure the cd you want to boot from is in the cd drive and if its bootable you will be prompted to press any key.

CHUKWLDI... like many others... does not know that server 2008 is NOT a CD ... :) so all the well meant instructions on how to install an operating system on a CD ROM will truly be of little help. Not to blame IDE.... even the guy who posted the queston did not have the where with all to know that what he had in his hand was a DVD.... Server 2008 will never be available in CD form. If at all possible it would have to be a 6 CD Set... and the operating system is intentionally no compatible for Servers that do not contain a DVD ROM....

IBM X Series 345. Only has CD drive. Need to install Server 2008 which is on DVD. Are there alternatives? Going to school for IT degree and wanted to use this for in home lab.

This time is a long time gone in not being answered... So... if you are someone who has purchased an X series 345 server... Let me share what you need to varify from my own enxeriences... So Yes... server 2008 is a DVD... and no only are there no compatible DVD replacement items to install in the 345 case.... ( bought one which was sooo close to fitting in the exact spot where the cd rom is located.. but was 1/8 of an inch wider that the slot allows. So that is not an option )
No one is telling you this... because either they do not have the experience to know the difference... or they are just not aware of what the products are... because let me tell you sraight... No where in any of the documetnation on IBM do you find anyone sugesting that you can operate server 2008 as an upgrade operationg system in a 345 server.
I suggest you go to IBM site and review the various operating systems they have to offer pages... there you will find and determine that server 2008 is not listed as an option as an operating system for a X series 345 server. There, it is not listed why.... try going in to this with the common sense thought that if it is not listed as an option... then you should probably not waste your time forcing an operating system on a server ... just to suit your purposes... cause it can't be done... and now, I will tell you why..
The 345, comes with a CD ROM. a DVD will no only not fit into the x 345 housing... but even if you decided you were going to just unplug the harness from the CD ROM to plug in to the suggested DVD replacement... You will then discover that the harness is NOT THE SAME... OOOOOOOH... another indication you are beating a dead horse... So lets see... so far... no listing in the IBM site as a option for an operating system.. But you bought 2008 anyways... discovered the CD rom in the X 345 is a CD ROM not DVD/CD ROM device.. :) Tryed to figure out how to replace the CD ROM device with a DVD devie... Hmmmm that didn't hook up...
So where do you... with your 2008 Server OP System DVD in your hand stand.... ? Maybe.. at this point you go BACK to the IBM site and discover that you WILL be able to install Server 2000 and Server 2003... The reason being... they are designed for this server... Imagen that... :) Now... don't go throwing that Server 2008 out some window like a frizbee... you may be wanting it before we are done here.
The reason .... and I mean the real reason these systems are created in CD and DVD fashion.. would be because no one is sharing with you that the 345 servers are 32 bit.. or x86.... the DVD having such a large file in the operating system is due to the fact that Server 2008 is created for 64 bit . not 86.
So... now you have just another one of the secrets no one has shared with us... go back to the IBM site... and see what servers your 2008 operating system will work on ... I bought a couple of 346 servers... which come with DVD players and you will find are on that list of Server 2008 compatible hardware. So... :) either go buy a server 2003 op sys. or go buy a x server 346 to run that server 2008 on...
:) :) :) You think this was any help... ??? I know it took me months months of experience to figure it out on my own... and am happily running 2003 on my V-345's and 2008 on my X-346's...
Sad that you are going to school for an IT degree... :) and your teacher could not help with this.. the most basic of conepts in computer system compatibility... Glad to help though... even if over almost 2 years late... But hey...HAPPY HOLIDAYS.... :)

How to install windows server2003in ibm server x3400

The install is fairly easy. Before you begin make sure if you have SCSI adaptors installed have the drivers for them on hand. If you do not have these drivers you should download them to a 1.4MB floppy disk. When you are ready, put the Windows Server disk in the cd/dvd and reboot the IBM. Follow the instructions on screen and you shoud be fine. From start to finish it should take you about 1 1/2 hours to complete everything.

Good Luck

IBM server dc can't boot due to system32\drivers\pci.sys missing

You mention on boot that the server shows a logical drive of 158GB, which obviously means the server is detecting the drives ok.

Quite often Windows doesn't have the correct drivers to support systems using RAID controllers such as IBM ServerRaid, so this is probably why the setup CD states "No HDD detected, press F3 to reboot". When the Windows Setup CD Boots, it should at some point (on the blue screen) at the bottom of the screen state something like "Press F6 to load additional drivers". If you can get the correct drivers from IBM website, and load them by pressing F6, Windows should be able to see the drives ok. Hopefully it will then be able to successfully repair the error.
