Have an Amana refrigerator with a bottom freezer. Model is ARB2109. The coils in the bottom frost up which causes the refrigerator portion to not cool properly. Occasionally we need to defrost the bottom coils with a hairdryer. This has happened more frequently lately

You will need to replace the "defrost thermostat" located on the freezer coils. Here is the part you need.

this unit is a bottom freezer with a ref on top . ( going by the model # . when you state that its freezing on top and not bottom if in the freezer area . your may have frost build up on the bottom of the evap coil . this would cause this . i belive that the defrost terminator has failed. replace this first and if you still have problem replace the aditive defrost control . mm pc control is caled jazz board . mm

Check the refrigerator coil to see if it is iced over. If so you will have to defrost the coil. Also make sure the fan for the evaporator is working. This should fix your problem. Please leave feedback. Thank you

You have a frost blocked evaporator. Translation: The cooling coils, located behind the back wall inside the freezer section, have plugged up with frost (usually caused by a burnt out defrost heater, located at the bottom of these coils) which prevents the cold air from circulating inside the freezer, and into the top of the fresh foods section. At the same time, this blocked air flow allows very cold air at the bottom of the freezer section to migrate back into the bottom of the fresh foods section, and thus freeze item in the bottom bins of the refrigerator. Unload the freezer, take the shelves out and remove the back panel. Melt the frost with a hair blower, and change out the heater at the bottom.

pull freezer back panel. is fan moving, is there frost built up on coils if so then defrost problem

The defroster thermostat is what usually causes a ref/freezer to act this way. It can be changed by anyone handy with tools. You refrigerator schematic should show you where it is located.

your freezer cabinet need to get all out and open the back wall.

1. you have 2 element that can be check one is the heating element , two is the thermostat.
2. you need a volt meter to check them.
3. if the frost is all over the coils then one of the element i told you before, is bad
4. if the frost is in one area not all over then you got gas leak.

you may want to check and see if you damper is working while the fan is on
check your air channels for frost clogs

freezer side is working good but cooling side is not cool
