There is a plastic retainer not with two tabs used for removal. You will need a removal tool to get this retainer off. Any plumbing supply that carries Moen should have this tool.
After removing the retainer nut, the cartridge pulls right out. Good luck!
i would like to help you w/this but i need some information first: 1) do you mean the faucet is running into the sink or it's leaking from the faucet body? (or from under it) 2) do you know the model of the faucet as this will tell me whether it is a cartridge system or a ball co.ck.
MoenMonticello 4-inch centerset bath faucets can be repair easily with only a screwdriver and adjustable wrench. Turn the water off to the both sides of the faucets under the sink. Open both the hot and cold-water valves to alleviate any remaining pressure. Remove the handles by grasping the base of the handle and turning it counterclockwise.( This works for both lever and cross handles). Loosen the Moen faucet cartridge bonnet nut with an adjustable wrench by turning it counterclockwise to the left. Pull the stem from the faucet by hand and replace. Reinstall the bonnet nuts and handles. Turn the water back on and test the faucet for leaks. The Moen Monticello faucet comes with a limited lifetime warranty. Try calling Moen to get your replacement parts free.
There is a cap on the top of the handle which can be removed by popping it out with a knife or a small flat tip screw driver. Inside you will see a screw which holds the handle to the faucet. Tighten this and replace handle cap.
if memory serve's me,you will need to remove a stem extension, screw in center, and you may need a tool #103462 to remove cartridge.1'st stem ex't is red,(hot) blue (cold), remove, look down, white piece w/ 2 notch'es, this hold's cartridge down, ya might try needle nose plier's to remove,a little lube help's upon re assembly, carefull w/plastic thread's
yes it sound's like you need a cartridge.i think the # is 1225,you might also want to invest in a cartridge puller also, moen make's one, and brass craft make's one as well.
After some additional experimenting, contrary to information I was previously able to gather, I discovered that the white plastic retainer doesn't (in this type of Moen faucet) actually screw off but rather is held in place by a spring clip inserted from the rear of the retainer (toward the wall side of the basing). Simply sticking a small screwdriver in the opening (approx. 45 degrees downward) and tipping the screwdriver toward the front of the faucet, snaps the spring clip out through the opening. The plastic retainer than lifts off. Note: the flat sides on the retainer suggest that a wrench will be needed but such is not the case.
