Likely either the foot pedal is sticking and not fully extending to the off position, or the foot pedal has failed, or the problem is with control board inside the machine.
As a test, hold the foot switch fully open with a hand or hands, then turn on machine to see if problem goes away.
If problem goes away, then likely its the foot pedal, but could be all that is needed is cleaning the foot pedal so it fully opens by itself. It might also be possible to stretch the spring inside the foot pedal, but I don't know.
If still same issue when holding foot pedal fully open, try unplugging the foot pedal from machine and then power up. If it still runs with foot pedal disconnected, then likely the problem is the control board inside the machine and not the pedal.
Is there power, does the sewing bed light come on? If so there is probably a fault with the pedal. If you are practical you can open the pedal and fit a volt meter across the terminals to see if the voltage increase when the pedal is pressed.
Your brake switch is just hung up. it is located directly above the brake petal and is attached to the petal bracket-use a flashlight and get down low enough to see up under the dash where your brake petal is, it will be hooked onto the petal bracket-just move it, it is probably just mis-aligned.
I have never seen it be the circuit board, always is the foot control switch. I dont understand the stitch getting tight though. And yes, it could be the circuit board.
It sounds like you need a pedal switch or it has a loose connection in the wires. It is a specific Peg Perego Switch that will fit under the foot pedal. I have a gator that was doing the same thing so i replaced the shifter switches and the foot pedal switch, but I bet you could start with just the foot pedal switch.
I bought mine at this website http://www.shopjandl.com/kids---baby-ride-on-toys-peg-perego.html but you could also call them as well.
Hope this helps
