If the belts are good then the PTO is going out, as it is getting hot and it stops working and then it cools down and then will work again until it gets hot.

JD318 runs for about an hour then it will stop and the blades will stop The engine starts up again immediately but the blades wont. After it sits for an hour the blades and engine will work

Do an either amp draw test or ohms check of the Pto clutch coil. I have seen where these partially short out and draw too much current for the alternator to keep up with. The Pto coil should be at least 1.7 ohms or higher. This will be a current draw of about 5 to 7 amps.

As Ray suggests The Pto clutch is drawing down the battery to the point that it is killing the engine. How is happening really depends which engine you have. Originally these mowers came with Onan engines.

I have a Toro 42 zero turn mower and the blades stop turning while mowing. The PTO switch knob melted. I replaced the PTO switch and the blades turned for 5 min. and then the PTO switch melted again.

Elertric blade drive clutches are a real pain when they go wrong
It sounds like a electrical short is causing the wires inside the switch to heat up beyond the safe melting point thereafter five mins the circuit gets between the fault gets broken as the switch fails the blades stop and the switch melts a bad eaRth corroded may cause this check the deck safety switches are not exposed e.g. they been damaged and the decks metal is shorting them out
a wire has been stripped of protective covering and is touching some metal shorting out something that vital to the blade controls operation the switch is getting a overload and subsequently melting your might need an lawnmower engineer to diagnose to the fault fully and repair

Why would blades just stop when mowing with ex mark lazer Z (model lz25kc604) I had beeing mowing for about 6 hours. Then it just stopped

It sound like the PTO clutch has died.
Test your PTO clutch. It should have a resistance of 1.7 to 2.5 ohms.

I have a trot built zero turn , when i pull the pto switch up the blades will not come on , sometime it will come on and sometimes it wont ..

sounds like bad PTO switch. I can only guess if you were to pull and hold pto switch out the blades keep running. had similar problem with a John Deere la120. replaced push pull switch and was good to go.

I have a craftsman z7000 mower. When I engage the PTO the blades start working but after about a minute they stop, like I turned the switch off. I waited a minute and tried again, same thing, it worked...

something is loose, pto switch connectors maybe loose or corroded, wires at the pto, bolts on the pto there should be three of them. hope this helps Tim

Mower deck PTO switch will engage when pulled but stop when rele

The PTO switch has failed. There is an internal spring and plastic parts in toggle switches that keep them in the actuated position. It's not practical to take the switch apart to fix it, but replacement switches are readily available - probably $12 - $20. It's a good idea to disconnect the negative terminal from the battery before you do any electrical work. Be sure to put the wires on the corresponding terminals of the new switch. Good luck! Pto knob stopped working to engage blade. Is there a quick fix for this?

No fix is really quick. The switch may have gone bad or the electric PTO has stopped working. One fix is cheap, the switch, and the other is expensive, the electric PTO. Or you may have a safety switch gone out.
Good Day.
