I have a 2002 Amana bottom-freezer refrigerator; Model # DRB1901CW. The freezer is cooling properly and the fan is blowing in the freezer portion. The refrigerator portion is not and no air is blowing into open damper on the refrigerator side. I have noticed that the back panel in the freezer is "freezing up" and when this happens the refrigerator side does not cool or blow air. If I defrost the entire unit manually - overnight, then the refrigerator works fine for about a week. I suspect that the unit is not defrosting. I would appreciate any advice on what parts may be needed. Thank you.

all that happens is the evaporator coil in the freezer gets cold,the evap fan blows the cold air to the fridge section and it goes through the damper,when it gets cold enough in the fridge section the thermostat on the damper closes the damper door,your damper broke in the closed position,this is as long as the door wasn't left open or anything like that,if it was the air ducts could have froze up but most likely it will be the damper.go here and it will show you where it is up near the light in the back and it's part number 18.hope this helps

Check the refrigerator coil to see if it is iced over. If so you will have to defrost the coil. Also make sure the fan for the evaporator is working. This should fix your problem. Please leave feedback. Thank you

first try to clean the condenser coil, it is under the bottom of the unit,blow out or vac out the coil.
check to see if fan in freezer is running or if there is ice on the evaporator coil inside freezer.

Look at the inside back wall of the freezer, If you see that it is built up with frost. You have a defrost problem. If not, check the coils under the bottom, make sure they are clean and not covered with dust. If so clean with vacuum and long brush. If they are clean, check the fan that blows on the compressor. Make sure it's running. If not you have a bad fan. Last be sure the fan inside the fridge is running.

open the freezer door, can you here a fan blowing??? if not that may be your problem, the evaporator fan not blowing cool airr up to refrig section,

The most likely cause is a bad evaperator fan motor. It is mounted in the freezer section. It blows the air up to the ref section. Open the freezer door and listen to see if you hear any fan noise.
