My calypso washer is leaving brown stains on the wash. it appears to only do this when running the normal cycle with warm water. I have used Refresh tablets nine times. This was recommended by the place that sold it to me to clean it. I still had problems and saw in the user manual to run on hot with a full cup of bleach. I did this three times and am still having the brown stains appear. It does not do this on delicate cycle.

SOURCE: ge washer

balogna, You need to get a good look at the fill valve to see whats going on. To do this, remove the two phillip screws on the back side of each console end. Then move the console foward and tilt up. You will see two gold color clips on each end that hold the cabinet to the frame, take a flat blade screw driver and pry up on the end of these clips to remove. Next, unplug the lid switch harness. Now you can lift up on the cabinet from the back and pull off the washer. Make sure all connections are tight under the console. On the right side of the back panel you will see the fill valve. Make sure the harnesses are on and the hoses are on. You can ohm out each valve if you have an ohmeter. To test the fill with the cabinet off you are going to have to jump the lid switch. Using a insulated piece of wire jump the connections on the harness. The green is ground so jump the other two. This will be able to give you a birds eye view of what is going on and where the unit is leaking. Best of luck.

SOURCE: whirlpool calypso GVW9959Q - Black stains on whites

At the end of the cycle, the wash plate nutates for
approximately 30 seconds to fluff the clothing after the
final spin. The action of fluffing causes the outer wash
plate seal to rub against the stainless steel basket while
they are both relatively dry. This condition causes the gray
discoloration.
RESOLUTION:
An updated machine control, part number 8542693, is
now available. The updated control reduces the fluff time
from 30 seconds to 8 seconds, allowing the clothing to be
fluffed, without causing discoloration.
Gray marks or smudges can be washed out of clothing
after wiping down the basket. The consumer should use
the recommended amount of HE detergent and the hottest
water safe for the fabric or hand wash the garment under
running water. In either case, the fabric must be cleaned
prior to running through the dryer

SOURCE: Liquid Bleach dispenser doesn't work correctly

This may not be relevant, but by design, bleach does NOT dispense in the Buly/Bedding, Kids Wear, and Silk/Ultra Delicate cycles. If you try to use it, it remains in the dispenser.

As for the yucky smell, leave the door open when not in use.

SOURCE: washer whining when washing and spinning leaving brown stains on clothes

Turn water off. Remove hoses and clean the rust out of the strainers at hose end. If they are clogged they will sound funny when water goes through them.

Large dark brown spots appearing after washing

Normally a washer does not cause a staining problem, but If something inside the washer has rusted, it could. I would check your water tank. Drain water from the drain cock at the bottom of the tank, and see how dirty it is. If it is dirty, you need to drain the water until it is almost clear.

Why does my front loading washer leave brown stains on some loads?

Hello friend, I appreciate your post!

I see you're getting brown stains on some of your loads of laundry within your Frigidaire washer. I have completed some research in regards to brown stains and that could be iron or manganese in the water supply, water pipes, or water heater. In order to restore discolored loads try a rust remover safe for fabric. Do not use chlorine bleach to remove these stains as it may intensify discoloration. I hope this is helpful. -Matt

Why is my washer leaving black stains on my clothes

It sounds like it might be leaving mold deposits. Try running a cycle with no clothes in it, hot, with a cup of bleach. If the stains are more brown than black, though, that would be rust in the pipes.

Random brown stains in random loads of laundry

Hi from Australia

Ok the problem with your washing machine is that there is grease and oil stuck in the machine and the oil will dribble out when you run the machine on a different cycle if you rince with cold water then the oil stays in there and the hot water lets a little bit out as it is stuck in the pipes of your machine ok the first thing is run an empty load on full hot water even the rince cycle with 1 cup of bleach nothing else let that go through the long cycle then do the same again with 1 cup of white vinger and 1/2 cup citric acid which you should be able to get over there or baking soda try that it will clean your machine and your pipes it is great way to keep it all clean by the time you have done this you should not have any brown stains
Have a great weekend

Starting to leave brown oily like stain on clothes

The first place that I'd check would be the small metal screens inside the openings on the water inlet valve. They can get really rusted, epecially in areas with hard water, so I would recommend removing the water supply hoses and take a gander at the screens. They can sometimes release the iron oxide into the wash water and cause brown stains or blotches on clothing. Hope this helped and best wishes.

My Whirlpool Calypso top loading washer (purchased in June of 2002) is starting to leave brown or dirt colored marks on clothing and sheets (I think they are permanent!) - I don't see any obvious place...

Run the washer empty with vinegar on the hottest, longest cycle. Usually this is caused from fabric softener and liquid detergent build up. Use powder detergent only and don't use cold water to wash in all the time. Only use cold water for your bright, finer cloths. Cold water use causes detergent build up.

Iam getting brown spots on white shorts after washing with Kenmore front loading washing machine

If it's gunk or build up the marks should wash away. In this case run a long cycle using "affresh" or "washer fresh" with an empty load and use the hottest water available to help rinse the gunk out.

If the marks do not wash away, it could be grease due to a bearing failure. Listen for loud growling or grinding either by spinning the drum by hand or putting it into a spin cycle. If this is the case, the rear tub assembly (contains bearing) will need to be replaced. Not much can be done about the ruined clothes :(
