While baking a casserole, the oven shut off with the display showing "PF" and the next display was "loc". The diplay works as do the gas burners. I understand that "PF" means power failure but can't find the source of the problem.

Hello,

This means the control board has a short. You would need to replace the board to fix the issue. Simply remove the screws on the side and underside of the panel the control panel will rotate down and out. There are four small screws that mount the control to the panel. I know this oven well. The clock is the issue..

GE Stove JCS968WK1WW display shows HR9.99, and no display controls work

Try a GE Control Panel Reset

This should clear the error codes:
Power off the unit, wait 5 minutes then restore the power.
Press the broil and bake keys simultaneously and "SF" will be displayed.
Press "Hr. Down" and "Minute Down" keys simultaneously for 3 seconds, then the time of day will be displayed.
Press "Temp Up" and "Minute Up." The control panel will display the following:
Go blank briefly
Display all segments briefly
Display "LOC REF" briefly
Display all segments again for 30 seconds
Display "LOC REF"
Acknowledge the "LOC REF" by pressing the "Hour Down" and "Minute Up."
Test control pads. Oven should now function.

We had a power failure and Kenmore stove showed pf and now loc. cannot get burners to turn on and cannot get loc off.

If you have a power failure or a brown out, it sends a very powerful current through the unit. Please keep in mind that these units are not protected against any surges. If you have a display, that means you have power. Unfortunately, the clock/timer contains relays that control the elements, the oven, etc. You will need to replace the clock to get it running again.

Whirlpool loc

From a google search the following is copied:

LOC is a control panel lock not a door lock, see below.

The Control Lock shuts down the control panel pads to prevent
unintended use of the ovens.
When the control is locked, only the CLOCK, TIMER SET and
TIMER OFF pads will function.
The Control Lock is preset unlocked, but can be locked.
To Lock/Unlock Control: Before locking, make sure the ovens,
Timer and Timed Cooking are off. Press and hold START/ENTER
until a single tone sounds and "Loc," a picture of a lock and
"START?" will appear on the oven display, about 5 seconds.
Repeat to unlock and remove "Loc" from display.

If the above does not work have you tried removing power from the uit for a few minutes to see if it will reset.

My power went off today and when it came back on, my Kenmore oven shows error code "PF 5 AB". None of the buttons work that I press. Burners turn on, but can't turn on oven. Suggestions?

Could that be PF power failure 5AB in the Sabbath mode. That's a new one.
Your model number is useless. Sears has a big 3 digit product code followed by 8 digits.
But let me dig up my 5AB notes:

Here is what I have:

To
provide sabbath feature (or to cancel this setting):
1. Push the PREHEAT pad and set the oven
temperature to 500°F/260°C or more using the UP
ARROW pad.
2. Push the PREHEAT pad within the next 2 seconds
for 3-4 seconds. A beep sounds and a number
appears in red to the right of the display. For the
conversion, "3" must be displayed. If another number
is displayed, push the PREHEAT pad and select
"3".
3. Push the UP or DOWN ARROW pad to change
from 12 hour to 9999 in the display, for no 12 hour
shut-off.
4. Push the CANCEL pad to confirm your choice.

Other Displays:
When proceeding through steps 1 and 2 in the
Temperature Scale Conversion or in the elimination
of the Sabbath feature /12-hour Shut-off time limit,
two other words can be seen in the display. One is ESC
with O in red. It cannot be changed. The other is USE or
SALE with 3 in red. This one is for factory use and should
stay on USE.
Hope this helps
