windows might not be able to locate the hard drive test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA
the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error
another possible reason is the cd/dvd drive
make sure all leads that are attached to your cd/dvd have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they are probably old and faulty ?
Click start control panel administrive tools, computer management, device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question mark ? right click you will have options to update driver, roll back driver,or select properties general troubleshoot, select driver click to reinstall drivers click update driver or uninstall then reinstall if this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer

Yes all the lead connections are fine. I can install windows xp or vista and they work fine, but even with a clean install on a new hard drive windows 7 still will not load. I have even tried 3 different new hard drives. I assume the windows 7 disc that I am using is ok as I can install windows 7 on my other core 2 duo PC's from the same disc. Maybe this motherboard and cpu combination isn't compatible for windows 7???
you will need a minimum of 2 GB of RAM to support windows 7 and if its 5yrs or older and asking for a driver it will not support w 7
Thanks for your help, that was my conclusion too. If I do figure out a way to get windows 7 to work on this set up I will post my findings.
good luck with that!!!
