I have a Moen bathtub/shower faucet installation.
Recently, while switching from shower to bathtub mode (by pushing the diverter down) the top knob of the diverter fell off, and the rest of the diverter assembly fell through into the tub. I believe I rescued all the various pieces before they went down the drain, but I'm having difficulty reassembling them.
When I contacted Moen, they seemed to think I should just replace the tub spout, but when I look at the bits and pieces, none of them seem to be broken; just disassembled. The problem is, I'm not sure how to orient the various bits and pieces to have a functioning shower once again.
Can anybody help me with this?

If you pull the silver knob on the tub spout up, the diverter located located inside will redirect water up to the shower head and when lowered it will return the water to the tub spout. It sounds as thought the diverter is not working properly. Hope this helps..
it sounds like the tub filler itself. When you pull the knob up it's supposed to divert the water to the shower, if it's coming out both, I'd look at that piece, inexpensive and easy to replace
Sounds like diverter valve which is your shower handle valve is bad take it apart and check out and replace it if possible because that transfer water to shower head.
the diverter is stuck. you have to move it up and down to free it up. the diverter is the mechanism attached to the tub spout that switches the water from shower to tub. you may also need a new diverter if fiddling with it doesn't work.
If you are handy, the best solution is to call delta and have them send you a new diverter. They will need the model of your faucet. The new diverter will come with instructions on the install process. As far as fixing it without the new diverter, I don't believe you will be able to.
You will need to either replace center "shower diverter"assembly or a quicker fix would be to remove old tub water fill spout and replace with a "pull up diverter knob" type water spout. Cost about 10 dollars Hdepot Pull Knob to divert water to shower when showering.
