Your 440 jet ski does not have a gear box. If you are referring to what looks like a filler cap on the front of the motor, that is the generator/flywheel cover and it is a dry compartment and should remain that way.

Kawasaki jet ski starter motor removal

To get access to the starter you will probably have to lift the motor out of the machine. Most Kawaski hulls do not give you much room to work. When you take the exhaust off you may have enough room to unbolt the starter.

1998 kawaski jet ski that boggs down on take off

Sounds like this bike sat for a while. When carburetors sit, the jet's inner diameter shrinks slightly from oxidization/micro-corrosion, and the diameter of the needles that go through them grows for the same reason.

Replace the jets and the needles that go through them.

I had this problem with a Suzuki GS850. When I fixed it, I treated the bike as I had been before I fixed it on the test drive, and almost launched myself off the back of the bike when I first opened the throttle. Careful.

Need to know what holds the gears in place where the starter turns the flywheel on a 1997 kawaski sts jet ski

You can look up part numbers and study parts diagrams at Kawasaki.com. By comparing the pictures to what you have you can see if you are missing anything.

No Spark to a 1994-1995 Polaris SL Jet ski

first have you done what is necessary for that such as draining the oil (unless it's a two stroke) draining the gas and refiling it with fresh gas and a couple bottles of gas line antifreeze (it sucks up water) ... for the electrical parts ... spray them with wd40... that will force out any moisture at all and oil does not conduct electricity.
