Suspect your POWER SUPPLY. Either your supply is faulty OR something else in your TV is demanding too much CURRENT (from the supply) and your supply may be 'protecting itself' with 'emergency shutdowns'.
These links and PHOTO WILL help you ~ if you are serious about repairs!
I know it's not quite the same model number as yours, but the steps and efforts remain similar.

Finally, this REAL 'old puppy' that DEMANDS LOTS of AC POWER to fire-up your 3 'super-bright' projector lamps inside! Are you sure you won't consider pushing this TV to the curb instead of investing HOURS of your life to fix this one?
I'm confident you have spent LOTS MORE on your POWER BILL (over the years) than the cost of a NEW Flat Screen model! GO ahead ~ you deserve a quality TV... but stick to known brands like LG - VIZIO and Panasonic to avoid the "no parts/boards available" problem (way down the road).
*(Your TV is so old that the Internet has NO CLUE when they first made this model)*? Also I see a whole ARRAY of problems with this series and it's no surprise that yours has similar problems!

The unuseable signal is a common thing that rcas do when the input rf signal is No good . You could have a bad cable line an bad ant. line or a bad tuner or the set is switched to the wrong anttenna input. No for a Hd compatable componet I always start with 1080i and go from there cause thats what is needed for an hdtv set. Good luck

change the convergence ICs also check the resistors right next to the ICs as 1 or 2 of them may be open as well.
SOURCE: wont turn on
Check the solder connections on the flyback and also right next to the flyback there is a small white coil with copper wrapped around it that will sometimes arch causing the solder to need re-soldering

When it is on, do you see any distortion in color? If not probably bad power supply board. Call 1-800-543-4330 and have model and chassis number and ask for Power supply/deflection board. Only about 200.00

this is a crt type tv- no lamps just crt's if it was moved recently then a seal could have been damaged on the crt cuasing coolant to leak down the neck getting into the socket. this will cause trouble for sure also could have a crack in the crt. look for a sticky liquid in the bottom of the unit.
sometime the crt's can ark and rip out a video output chip on the crt socket check it out.
not common but not unheard of.cheers
