No main menu or video shows on tv

You have to hold down the power button for about 15 seconds and it will reset the video output from HDMI back to regular AV out.

You will need to turn on the PS3 and hook it up with rca so you can access the console menus. Turn it on and get to the main dashboard. 1. Go to Settings -> Display Settings (not video) 2. Select [ Video Output Settings ] 3. Select HDMI 4. Select Resolution 5. Select Screen Size 6. Save the settings 7. Reboot the console. This should resolve the problem. We've seen PS3 consoles that would not reset by performing a hard reset. We were able to resolve this issue through the settings menu though. This is because the PS3 is trying to outpur in Digital... you have to reset the video output to work on your analog tv again... try this.

turn the unit off... if it is on hold the power button on the unit.

while the unit is off hold the power button untill it beeps, then go into the setup and reset the proper settings for your tv.

you might have it stuck on a different video output e.g HDMI or AV. i had the same problem when i took my ps3 to a friends house mine was stuck on HDMI from my tv and i put it on my friend's tv on AV and it didnt show up i thought my ps3 was broke but when i got it home i realised you have to change it from HDMI to AV through settings on the XMB on display settings. hope this helps

its possiable the unit overheated call sony for a replcment unit if that is the case and its under warrenty.

Just a gander, but your PS3 may be set for HD output thus not displaying on your non HD television, your best bet in this case is to find an HD television, friend, coworker, etc, connect to it and switch the settings back to regular. Also if I understand correctly leaving the ps3 completely unplugged for 72 hours may also reset all settings. Good luck!

when u connect ps3 to your tv turn on main switch now red led will come on press and hold touch button ps3 will come on keep your finger on the button and ps3 will turn off again factory settings are now reloaded this will work because i often change from standard v to hd tv

try turning your tv on the input that you have the ps3 plugged in. Then with your ps3 on standby (the red light is on), hold the power button until the second beep. This resets the video settings

When you switch from one cable connection to another (Hdmi to AV etc) you need to reset the PS3 to its default settings. Basically what is happening is, your PS3 is set to HDMI, so when you plug in AV cables it doesn't know it. So you have to reset it. Hook your PS3 up to whatever cables (make sure system is fully off) then hold the front power button down for a few seconds.

Doing this will reset the display settings. You can then go into the XMB (main menu) and choose your connection. Although the PS3 should do this during the start up on its own.

When powering on the ps3, hit the power button and hold it for 10 seconds the PS3 will beep. This resets the PS3 to display at standard resolution.
