ThinkPad T61 -- At power-up, screen displays a 2X3 grid of identical start-up screens (ThinkVantage & Windows). At the point the display normally goes blank before bringing up the Windows log-in, it goes blank and stays blank. The system is running and when I attach a monitor via the VGA port, the monitor displays normally.

When I boot up my t61 it starts to spin up then halts. The AC power and battery power indicators are green as is the power indicator. I thought it might be overheating so blew out the fan with...

Most likely the hard disk has just died - try to access the BIOS and see if it's still recognized. For that ress the blue ThinkVantage button when the message "To interrupt normal startup, press the blue ThinkVantage button " is displayed and then select Start setup utility .
If nothing appears on the screen then the defect is in the motherboard - you will need to take it to a service center to determine if the board must be replaced.

Green flickering squares when i turn on my laptop

Something's wrong with the display driver or the display card. You can try opening up the T61. The contact on the display chip or the display connector is probably corroded. Try pressing them a bit (not to hard). if it's the display connector, try removing it and placing it back. I've had this problem before with some other notebook. It's ok when in safe mode because safe mode doesn't use the higher display functions.

Blank screen upon startup

Try taking out the hard disk, plug in power and see if you have a display on your screen or external monitor. if same thing happen, try taking out the memory card. If you hear a beep sound it's a faulty mem. card, if no beep sound appears I suspected it's a motherboard faulty.

Help cannot get into my thinkpad labtop lenovo t61

Turn the computer on and then wait for the startup ThinkPad screen. then press the blue ThinkVantage button on the upper left of the keyboard. This should bring you to the rescue and recovery applications on the computer and help you diagnose and hopefully recover your system.

Thinkpad T61 Display Problem

LCDs are not repairable, it is something you need to replace when defective. They also happen to be very very expensive to replace.

Is the screen cracked at all? cause sometimes when laptops get bumped, it is actually just the lcd cable inside the laptop that came a little loose and isn't making a full connection. If the screen isn't cracked or anything I would at least look into a possible loose cable first If you are not comfortable taking the laptop apart, I would bring it to a computer shop and have them take a look at it as some laptops can be complicated to open up. They shouldn't charge you more than about $40 to take a look at the lcd cable, they are normally pretty quick to get at. It is worth a shot as lcds typically range from $400 - $1000 and to have someone install it would be probably another $50-$100

hope this helps a little
