Problem description: The laptop shuts off when AC power adapter is plugged in. The laptop works fine on battery power but as soon as you connect it to AC adapter, the laptop turns off.
Possible cause: 1. Power adapter failure.
2. Motherboard failure.
Possible troubleshooting steps and repair solution: First of all, test the power adapter. Make sure the adapter outputs correct voltage. It's possible that the output voltage is not correct and the laptop shuts down to prevent the damage. Test your laptop with another known good power adapter.
Toshiba Satellite A305 AC Adapter
If the problem still exists, even after replacing the adapter, most likely it's the motherboard failure. Replace the motherboard.

My Lenovo s10 power adaptor (Input 1.7A, Output 20V 2A) was working just now together with the battery. After i didn't used the laptop for an hour and returned to switch it on, the power adaptor isn't...

hi,

You said laptop is working fine if just using the battery, that means that there is nothing wrong with the battery itself. Can yu please try to connect the laptop directly to the power outlet without using the battery just for the mean time, remove the battery and connect the AC adapter directly to the power outlet then power on the laptop,if nothing happens, that means that there is something wrong with the AC adapter itself or the power port on the laptop.
Hope this will help...

Does not start; no power indicator light

Take out the battery and then try the different ac adaptors. If you still get no lights on the laptop then the motherboard is bad and would need to be replaced. Just make sure that you know at least one of your ac adaptors are good.

If the adaptors have lights and they turn on then you know the ac adaptor your working with is good. Also make sure they are plugged into a good working outlet.

AC Power adaptor wont work without usb printer connected

Hey alberto,
First off thanks for choosing Fixya.com. The Ac adapter itself could be bad or it could be the dc jack. And also the problem with your cpu fan could also be that the fan has gone out or the motherboard itself needs to be replaced.

Pc is telling me to plug it in when the battery is at 90%

The battery needs to be conditioned. To condition a battery, plug in the AC adaptor and charge it to 100%. Unplug the AC adaptor and run the battery completely down to 0% or until the computer shuts itself down or goes into a hibernate mode. Once this occurs, plug the AC adaptor back in and fully re-charge the battery to 100% again. You should now be good to go.

Let me know what happens and if this has solved your problem. Thank you, Binary Bob

Power

It sounds like a mother board problem since you upgraded the bios and got different results. Try plugging in the adapter and warming it up. Will the computer run without the battery? that will also let you know if it's the battery.

My initial thought was that your AC adapter may have a heat problem or failing after a while. Wrap it in plastic and put it in ice and see if it lasts longer. If you have the same problem there are other issues going on in the computer power system.

Lap top problem

Hi

If the AC power light is blinking, try the following steps:

1 Cut off power to the computer by disconnecting the AC adaptor and removing the battery. The error condition will be interrupted, and the AC power light will stop flashing.

2 Put the battery back into the computer. Do not connect the AC adaptor. Try turning the computer on again. If the computer starts normally, the AC adaptor may be
defective and will need to be replaced. If the AC power light starts flashing, remove the battery, and continue with the steps below.

3 Connect the AC adaptor to the computer. Leave the battery out of the computer. Try turning the computer on again. If the computer starts normally, the battery may need charging, may be depleted, or may be defective. Turn the computer on, insert the battery, and then leave the computer running for several hours, which will deliver a slow, steady “trickle-charge” to the battery. Once the battery has been trickle-charged, it may begin working correctly again. If the trickle-charging does not prove effective, consider replacing the battery with a new one.

4 Connect the AC adaptor to a different power outlet, preferably in a different room. If the computer starts normally, there may be a problem with the AC outlet itself, or the voltage level available from it.

5 Verify that the AC adaptor is the correct unit for your computer model. The computer may not be able to start from an AC adaptor that is rated for less current (amperage) than the computer requires, even if the rated voltage is correct, and the plug fits correctly in the DC-IN socket. The labels on the bottom of the computer and the AC adaptor show the specifications for voltage ("V") and current ("A") for each device. The voltage level must match exactly. The amperage rating of the AC adaptor must be equal to or greater than that required by the computer

Mike

Help

sounds like you have an intermittent problem with your AC adaptor or dc input jack. Does the light on the AC adaptor light up when you plug it in? If it does then your dc input jack may be faulty. If the light on the ac adaptor does not light then replace the ac adaptor. Good Luck!
