Click the power button and watch the screen to see which key it says to press to get into the Bios or System Setup. Change the boot order or boot sequence. It looks like it is set to boot from a Network or LAN first. You want to boot from the hard drive 1st or the cd drive 1st and the hard drive 2nd. This will change it permanently. Then reboot.

There might also be an option to change it temporarily when you boot the system. Just watch the screen and see if it shows you which key to press to change the boot order or boot sequence. It is only effective for this one boot.

I have an Acer Aspire 5630 when i turn it on i get a black screen showing. PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable PXE-M0F: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM. Operating System not found I have got a...

The message is the laptops way of saying that it has looked for an operating system and could not find one. The PXE rom message refers to it trying to find a network boot record.

Test this by checking your Bios settings, in the boot order, see that the CDRom is set to 1st boot, then the second bot is the HDD, If the thing will not boot. Check you can see that the laptop "sees" the boot devices, if it does not, you have a problem, as it looks like the controllers are damaged.

If it Does find the boot devices, but it still defaults to a network boot, there is either NO OS on the hard drive, or it has been corrupted.

Use the Vista DVD to re-install Windows (you may be lucky enough to get away with a repair installation), after you have reinstalled windows, the drivers etc can be found on Acer's site quite easily

Hello,

Just follow these simple steps below and it should resolve the issue.

  1. When the computer is booting, go in the BIOS.
  2. Change the boot device priority so that your HDD becomes the first boot device.
  3. Disable network PXE boot if possible. If not possible, just put it as the last boot device.
  4. Press F10 to save settings and restart the computer.
  5. If problem is not solved at this stage, turn off the computer.
  6. Remove the lid and remove the HDD, clean the pins and reseat it.
  7. If issue persists, give a tap on the laptop where the HDD is located (I assure this works and has solved many problems) as there seems to be a 'strike zone' on some HDD.
Now turn on your computer and it should be running correctly.

Hope this helps you.

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable PXE-M0F: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM Operating System not found Acer Travelmate 5720G

This error is a result of your computer not finding the operating system. This is usually the case when the hard drive has failed. You will need to take the computer to a technician to replace the hard drive and have windows reinstalled.

Hard drive has been coruppted. Hold alt f10 on statup to format and reinstall. If that dont work you may need to try install from cd's provided when you purchased laptop. If that dont work buy new hard drive and restore from cd's. Good Luck.

Acer TravelMate 4200 Laptop

This error is telling you there is nothing for the laptop to boot from.
The PXE meanes the laptop is trying to boot from the network adapter. If there is a hard drive in the laptop, then remove it and reinsert it again.
It could have suffered a catastrophic hard drive failure, or it could be just having an issue.
Also try putting a bootable cd/dvd into the drive and see if it will boot at least from that. If it does and you have access to another PC (you obviously do) and a cd burner, then search the net for "Hirens Boot Disc" download it and burn it.
This is a bootable cd that has a lot of tools for diagnostics of hard drives and a myriad of other things as well.
