Yes, you can still enjoy cup of coffee during your pregnancy. But you'll have to limit yourself to 200mg of caffeine a day, which is two cups of instant coffee or one cup of brewed coffee.

The main concern with coffee is its caffeine content. If you regularly have more than 200mg of caffeine while you're pregnant, you are more at risk of miscarriage or having a baby with a low birth weight.

This 200mg limit includes all sources of caffeine, so as well as coffee you'll need to count teas (including green tea), cola, energy drinks and chocolate.

If you need to cut down on coffee, switch from brewed coffee to instant coffee as it's slightly lower in caffeine. You could also make it weaker by using only use half a teaspoon of coffee.

Decaffeinated coffee is also a good option, and it tastes almost the same as normal coffee. And you may be able to trick yourself that you're getting a caffeine hit!

When pregnant, you should limit your caffeine intake. Tea has really low amounts of caffeine, so a cup every so often probably wouldn't be a problem.

Coffee however contains a lot of caffeine so it would probably be best to avoid it most of the time.

If you want to drink tea so you can opt for green tea.

During the time of pregnancy, you can enjoy the Green tea benefits. There's no harm in enjoying a cup or two of Green Tea During Pregnancy. However, consuming green tea in excess may prevent the absorption of Folic acid. Folic acid is an important nutrient needed by women particularly during the first 12 weeks of the pregnancy to prevent birth-related defects.

If you are pregnant and want to drink tea or coffee, then my expert suggestion is to drink green tea because it will stay away from various problems and can take during pregnancy period. The coffee is also good, but not as effective as green tea.

Is it ok to drink hot chocolate during pregnancy?

Yes. Women are generally recommended to cut down on their caffeine intake during pregnancy but the amount of caffeine in a cup of hot chocolate is much less than you find in coffee or even tea.

So keep drinking your hot chocolate. Obviously an excess of anything isn't good for you, so just aim for a balanced healthy diet.

My wife really loves Coke and drinks it everyday. We have just found out that she is pregnant. Can she still drink Coke or does she have to cut back?

Drinking Coke while you're pregnant is fine, but doctors do recommend limiting the caffeine intake per day to maximum of 200 mg. This means that she shouldn't drink more than a bottle per day.
