HP Dv4 TouchPad buttons not working - Computers & Internet

Watch out when typing. You're probably hitting the touchpad below the keyboard with the heel of your hand. Keep your wrists up a bit and that should take care of the problem. I believe this series has a switch on the touchpad bezel so you can turn it off until you want to use it again.

Re-install the driver

Unfortunately the touchpad of most laptops is very sensitive. This will cause the slightest nudge of the thumb or wrist to move your mouse and possibly even "click". In order to avoid this issue and associated frustration, I always 1) disable the touchpad when I have an external mouse plugged in and 2) disable the "tap click" feature. Follow the instructions below for these two suggestions.

Disable touchpad

1. On my system there is a small button just above the touchpad that disables it, yours might as well. If not, go to Start>Control Panel> Mouse>Device Settings>and Device. Highlight the Disable Button.
2. Follow the same steps as above but instead of Disable button select Device button and select the Tapping option and unselect "enable tapping".

i have the same problem with my HP Pavilion DV4 they were unhelpful on the phone about it. It's been happening with this computer since I bought it. The cursor will just jump around randomly for a few minutes being unresponsive. Then go back to normal.

You say it has been restored so I assume that Windows has been re-installed. If so then it is probably using the generic Windows touchpad driver and you need to update to the specific touchpad driver. Go to HP Website and download the touchpad drivers.

Go to device manager
Right click the touchpad device
Uninstall driver
Reboot system

Reinstall touchpad driver

Hi there Dublin. I recently bought a HP laptop myself, and I believe I can help your situation, or at least I hope I can. Here's what you do: Access your Control Panel>Click Mouse>Click Device Settings>Click Settings> Click Tapping> Click Disable Tapping. That should do the trick. You are not disabling your touch-pad, just the double-clicking that is associated with it. Drove me nuts for about a day, 'til I figured it out..Hope it worked for your notebook.

those laptops have a button just over the touchpad if the light in it is orange/redish its of if its blue its turned on if the touch pad doesent work while its a blue ligt it may be some thing wrong with it.
