Hello
I am using Vista Ultimate on HP-520. The problem with my pc is very strange. When there is new updates available to download and install & those updates required this machine to be restarted. My pc shutdowns during restart. Then I have to wait for about 10 minutes, press power button and it boots. In normal way, if I restart my laptop from start button, it starts without any problem. But when I install any update, it shutdowns during restart. Please explain and help.
Best Regards,
Aly
This is something you no longer have to worry about. Vista is no longer being supported so Microsoft will no longer be releasing new updates.

All you need to do is boot to the recovery console, and type the following commands, in order:
cd \
attrib -c ntldr
exit

I had the same problem. The processor is overheating during start up. At first, it would quit while I was watching a DVD, but it got worse until it wouldn't even boot. I thought it was software but I stuck in a fresh hard disk and tried to install the recovery CD's, but it would do the same thing. I disassembled the laptop, blew out the cooling fins, and applied new heat-sink grease to the processor. That got it to boot on the old HDD, but while I was transferring files it would do the same thing. I finally removed the bottom cover and set it upright in the deep freezer. It worked long enough that I could recover my files. I ended up replacing the processor and RAM, used the recovery CD, and installed the XP-SP3 package. I kind-of eased into using it and it worked great until I tried to install HP printer software. After I did, I noticed a system slow-down and that the cooling fan would kick on more often at idle. I uninstalled the printer and now it works fine for surfing, photos, etc. I just print through a networked printer and don't install anything I don't need.

This can be on your operating system or either the fan of the processor is bad. You just need to check both of that out.

Hello,
I recommend you to use Windows XP for time being since, Windows Vista is new released and make softwares might not work with vista as they are not compitable to vista.
However, if you wish use the Windows Vista then I suggest you to make a note of softwares that are not working in Vista and then look forward for assistance of Particular software Manufacturer for patch of Vista driver or software to work with application.
So it is clearly an issue with softwares and not with Windows Vista. My personal advice you to start using Vista after 2-3 months as many software vendors started to release and work to develope their application software with Vista.
hmm, let me tell you further . You can visit and check out website of software vendor for any updates on Vista. This would help you. If you see any updates available, then please go ahead and try to download and install it. This would work !!!1
I am sure that this should resolve the issue for you.
if you need any further assistance you can mail me at [email protected]. I'll be glad to help you.
Bye....
