The monitor may be failing. Here's some tricks I would try...
1. Verify the monitor's power cord is plugged firmly into the wall outlet and the back of the monitor.
2. Verify the monitor cable is firmly connected to the computer and the monitor.
3. Verify that you have turned the monitor power switch on.
4. If the power light on the monitor is not on, test the wall outlet (plug in a light or something you know works).
5. If the power light on the monitor is not on, try a different power cord.
6. If the power light is on and yellow or orange or flashing, but nothing displays, or the display is incorrect, borrow a monitor from a friend. If that works, your monitor probably needs replaced.
7. Also, you could try your monitor on a friend's computer. If it doesn't work, your monitor probably needs replaced. If it works properly on your friends computer, the problem may be with your computers video output port, motherboard video chip (or video card, if you have one), or drivers.
Good luck.
A flashing
power light often means the monitor isn't getting a signal. When you
turn the monitor off and back on, do you see the brand logo for a
few seconds? Try plugging it into a different computer to see if it
comes on.
If plugging it into another computer doesn't work, it
may be a bad power circuit in the monitor. A common problem with
monitors is the capacitors going bad. If you're handy with a soldering
iron, you can try replacing them yourself. Look here for pictures and
instructions: Fix an LCD Monitor

The
picture board on your monitor is bad, since it goes off after few
seconds and the power led or button is on, it means the
picture
board of your monitor has developed fault and will need to be replace.
I
advice you replace the picture board on the screen of your monitor to
solve the problem of the blank screen.
You need to open it up and inspect the inside for bad capacitors (bulging top/seal, leaking liquid), inverter/power supply circuits, can be bad lamps, transformers, etc. Post back what you see inside, pictures will help a lot. See pictures I posted here on failed monitors: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Flashing power LED light means you may have shorted (Emitter to Collector) out transistors (c5707) or bad fuse (fuse has high resistance) PF751. Those are what you need to check. see pictures here: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/Dell%20E173FPb/

This is a common indication of a failure in the power supply. There are parts called capacitors that are used in the filter section of the power supply, when they go out the power supply can't properly turn on so you get no picture and a flashing power light. Here is a picture of the power supply board with the problem filter capacitors circled in yellow and below the picture in a link to a repair guide with details dis-assemble and repair instruction along with parts list for the Dell 1905FP and 1907FP models.
This sounds as if you are using the hibernate feature in windows reboot it and reset the power options to hibernate never check the vid connection as well
