The motehrboard bios doesnt boot from usb to install windows, how can i update the bios to boot from the usb?

Insert your USB jump drive into a USB port on the computer containing the bootable program. Copy the information to your jump drive, then insert the drive into a USB port on the computer you wish to boot the program from.

Power on the computer. When the computer begins displaying its startup information, hit the key indicated on screen to enter the computer's BIOS (the "F1" or "Delete" keys are commonly used to access the BIOS).

Browse through the menu options in the BIOS to locate the computer's startup and booting options to locate the "CMOS" menu, which is where you'll have the option to set which devices will boot at startup.

Browse though the list of bootable option---they'll be ordered as "First Boot Device," "Second Boot Device" and so on. Set the USB jump drive as the first bootable option---your BIOS may refer to the drive as a "USB Removable Floppy Disk."

Save and exit the BIOS. When your computer restarts, your program will boot first before your operating system.

on start up get into the bios set up, click on the boot up tab and set the hard drive as first boot followed by and cd or usb stick setting

Try booting up with the ps2 keyboard.Once in Win 8.1, unplug ps2 and plug in usb keyboard. See if windows will recognize the usb keyboard and if so it should install software and drivers

How do I boot from a usb on a nec versa lx laptop?
Go to the store and purchase a good copy of Windows XP and install it from a disk. In the BIOS you should have the option of booting from external devices as a alternative as well. This would mean USB or any plug and play drive. Make sure it is set to boot to this fist boot. Really I would just go and get a copy of Windows XP it should be relatively cheap now since there is no real support or at least it is dying out or has died for support updates. If you can purchase the original boot and software for your computer from the factory as well.

I would also strongly suggest you take it in to the pro and have them do it less hassle for you if you have not done this a lot.

My WDBAAU0015HBK external harddrive don't boot when i start up my computer. It says initalising USB divices and then when it autodetect the USB mass storage devices it stops. In the BIOS i put the boot...
It sounds like the BIOS is set to auto-boot from the USB device.
Have you reset the 'boot order' in the BIOS?

Also if you are still running sp2 go to Microsoft update and install the updates. You should be running on service pack 3.
(the updates are free, and are more secure than sp2)

Bios replacing
You will need to download the BIOS installation software for DOS if they have one from the motherboard manufacturer and the BIOS file. You will then need to make a bootable dos cd-r disc using windows. Once you have done this you can use the disc to start your computer in DOS mode. Then burn the BIOS DOS SOFTWARE and the BIOS FILE on a cd-r. Then you will be able to run the BIOS software from dos and install the bios file. You could also install windows on a USB hard drive then try to boot from it if your computer can boot from USB and the USB boot device option is still working.

How can i boot up from usb when my bios doesnt have usb option in boot menu
You may not see option for USB drive unless you have a USB drive connected when you go into the BIOS.

Otherwise, you will need to attach a floppy drive, and create a boot floppy that then loads drivers and such for the hardware, as well as the interface, and eventually, the drive itself.

Yes, it is possible to boot to a USB device, even when there is no support in the system BIOS for such a feature. To do this you would need to install a freware utilty, a boot manager, called the PLoP Boot Manager. The PLoP Boot Manager is a small program to boot different operating systems. You can boot the operating systems from harddisk, floppy, CD/DVD or from USB. You can start the boot manager from floppy, CD, network and there are many more ways to start the boot manager. You can install the boot manager on your harddisk. There is no extra partition required for the boot manager.

Processor not recognized
Updating bios is outside windows.
Use another computer and download the bios, save it on a floppy, cd or usb
Put the floppy, cd or usb in your pc, change the boot on your pc, let the pc start from whatever u sored your update on
The pc will now update your bios since thats an automatic procedur.
Dont forget to change your boot back to your HDD

Comp doesnt boot after installing USB 2 drivers
Hi rogueonline,

Disconnect the external drive from the PC. (It's possible windows registry is messed up).
It sound like your windows system is a bit confused as well. First try resetting the bios. See page 9 in your manual. (Don't forget to set it back to normal). This should allow you to get back into the bios. Go over each setting & adjust as needed.
Make sure your primary hard disk drive is listed in the boot order. Advanced Setup Page 30, in manual. If your windows operating system seem is a bit off (OS not installed correctly or driver software not installed correctly). The over-all function of the system can & will run slow. If your primary drive seem to also run slow, the FAT or MBR can be slightly corrupt which will also slow the drive down including file transfer & eventually the drive will cease to function. (The drive can be repaired by doing a full format through windows).
Do a fresh install of windows, including the full format, (Not a Quick format) on the primary drive. Even though ECS does include the USB 2.0 driver so does windows update service. If your windows was all ready updated & you re-installed ECS's (2003) USB driver, that may have been enough to screw up windows. If you have data on your current drive & need to get that data off & if you have access to another system you can pull your drive & slave it into another system & remove the data. There is no quick fix. Play it safe. Start from scratch. After windows has been installed & you install the ECS driver software, update windows until there are no updates left. I'm sure your system will regain its speed.

BIOS upgrade?
u can use usb cddrive without update bios but unlike later versions of windows where you just plug it in and it detects it you will have to use an instalation disk for system to recognise device same with usb stick.
what mem do u have and consider xp (need at least 40meg to install)if u can fit 256 or higher ur laughing mem cheap as buttons these days.
