Pressing the ice actuator pad resulted in a hum and no ice moved. All ice that was blocking the auger opening was removed and again tried with the same hum. I removed the ice bucket and checked the auger motor by turning the auger motor "U" coupling and there was no binding and the motor turned freely with the gearing. There is an opening to the right of the auger motor "U" coupling where the auger solenoid saddle is exposed and when I touched it the saddle dropped down. The auger still hummed when the acutaor pad was pressed and the saddle would go up and stay up until I then touched it gently at which time it fell back to its down position. Then the actuator pad no longer caused the hum and there is no sound and no movement of any component.

hi there,
sounds like the i/m is making ice. if you have ice in the bucket, it means that the only problem is the dispensor. if you have frost anywhere, the problem is with the actuator, which is the ice pladdle. you may have a broken spring or just the ice paddle need to be replaced.

I am looking up your refrigerator to see the right parts. Sounds like the defrost cycle is not happening. look for a defrost or adaptive defrost board. Check your model number again because I am not able to find the number listed. I will continue to check for the correct refrigerator and if you find a simple defost timer turn it clockwise slowly until you feel and hear a click. If you do and you may hear the elements heat up inside the freezer. If that happens just put a new defrost timer and you should be set. Sea Breeze

I'm not sure in your case if its better to order a new ice maker or if you want to take it apart and change the thermostat or possibly the limit switches. Some have a spring so if you try to do it yourself do it slowly and carefully as not to lose the internal parts. Let me know, I will help you if you need, Sea Breeze

OK. This problem previously described occurred 2-3 hours before theposting and the ice system was not attmepted since problem found. Spouse just tried ice dispensor and it worked fine. My kind of bug - intermittent issue. I hope someone has an answer from a similar experience.
I've posted three times to this site and not once do I get a response nor can I locate my posting unless I am logged in. I have tried to find this problem by searching for the problem I describe above and nothing. When I view the post I cannot locate anything to allow me to respond to it with a fix.

Again, I fixed the problem on my own. The cube ice stopped working but the crushed ice continued until last week. Since day-one that we have owned the refrigerator it has had a small problem with having to precisely locate the crushed ice switch or it didn't work. Not a problem until recently when crushed ice came into high demand.
Then the crushed ice failed so I deduced that the common item was more than likely in the switch panel. I ordered one from eBay and put it in and it works just fine now. I got my help from another site to include the process to replace the switch which took all of 10 minutes.
