Hampton Bay AC434-WB 52'' Ponte Vecchio Weathered Bronze Ceiling Fan Logo
Anonymous Posted on Feb 12, 2011

I was having my light bulbs go out too much. So, I put a screwdriver into the socket to bend out the contact. Left the power on and it sparked. Now I have it disassembled and I get 110 power to the power cords from the lamp and I have tested the light fixture I removed by hooking it up to 110. All sockets to the 4 bulb fixture work if plugged in separately. There is another light inside a dome above the fan blades that does not work. When I hook the 4 bulb light fixture up to the fan again, they don't work. Take it down, hook it up separately to the 110 they do. Test the two power lines that go to the 4 fixtures with a power meter and when I turn it on, they have 110.

Just leave any more questions you have here as comments in case we get cut off on the chat page. I will keep an eye on this page and answer any of your comments here when I see them.----Joe.

I'm not sure what happened to ya on the chat page, I hope you didn't electrocute yourself working on that fan (haha). Anyway if you manage to hook up a single standard light fixture to the Black and the White wires shown in Figure 18 on page 10 of the manual, then that single light should come on when you power up the fan with the wall switch and turn on the light with the remote. If the single standard fixture and bulb still do not light up then your problem is most likely higher up in fan and the 4 bulb light fixture that came with the fan is probably ok.

  • Anonymous Feb 12, 2011

After looking at the manual the most likely problem is with the Remote Receiver (see figures 10 and 11 on pages 6 and 7 of the manual). There is either a loose connection on one of the wires at the receiver wires screws or the receiver itself was damaged when you shorted out the light socket with your screwdriver.

  • Anonymous Feb 12, 2011

I'm not sure if just the receiver can be replaced or not. Your best bet if you can't get the thing to work on your own is to bring it back to the Home Depot where you bought it and tell them you cant get the light to work. Try not to mention the screwdriver shock part hehe. Home Depot should have your purchase on file even if you don't have the receipt anymore (though I'm sure it's better if you do) and they are usually very good about replacing defective devices.

  • Anonymous Feb 12, 2011

If they don't take it back at Home Depot or replace the part then you might be stuck calling in an electrician. If you can, wait until you have one in for another job in the house and then just ask him to have a look at the fan for you. It will save you paying an hour of labour for the house call for a potentially 10 minute job. Anyway like I said, you can leave some comments / questions here if you like and I will watch out for them and answer them when I can.-------Joe.

Left headlight replaced but still not working, swapped with right bulb so bulb is good

If you checked for power inside the socket(power and ground) the bend the tabs in the socket to touch the bulb wires. They get hot and bend. pull them out a bit.

Left rear turn signal light will work and then stop I have to take the bulb out and put it back in tried swapping bulbs now the turn signal and brake light are not working

There could be a few different solutions;
1. the socket wires could be bent. Remove bulb and check for socket wires pushed into the socket housing. Use a small fine point pick to bend wires until they stick out into the bulb cavity.
2. The bulb wires could be out of alignment. Bend wires until they stick out from the bulb base.
Those 2 possibilities apply to the glass tang base bulb. If you have a metal base bulb ( it has the contacts on the bottom, with a metal base and pegs sticking out the side ). If this is your bulb style, you'll need to look at the contact points in the bottom of the bulb socket. If the contact point tops are flat or curved in, or if they are not clean ( green or brown corrosion on them ) you'll need to clean and re-grease the contact points before considering replacement. You can use either electrical parts spray ( recommended ) or a warm water and baking soda mix ( a coffee cup filled 3/4 up with warm water to a tablespoon of baking soda. Dissolve baking soda in water, make sure key is OFF and socket is away from other wiring. Pour a small amount into the socket and scrape contact points and side wall with a fine point pick or mini flat bladed screwdriver until contact points are clean ).
Dab a small amount of Dielectric grease onto the bulb base, covering the contact points and tags sticking out of the side, and re-install bulb, then test, If it still doesn't work, you'll need to replace the socket assembly - available from your local auto parts store.. Make sure you get a socket with the same number of wires and mount configuration.
Hope this helps!!

Left rear turn signal does not work. all other signal light work. this is not a burned out bulb.

bad bulb socket. You might be able to pry the wires on your bulb out just a bit to make better contact, or replace the socket. Bend these out like little rainbows just a little, don't break 'em, just bend them out a little bit on both sides. (i used a kitchen knife lol)

Brake lights are all ok until tail lights are on. then u step on brake and one side goes out. tried replacing bulbs and brake light switch and stll have same problem.

It is the tail light housing thats at fault. You need to take the tail light off and pull the bulb socket out. In the hole you should see the metal contact ring the socket seats against. With a screwdriver carefully bend the metal ring out from the housing a little bit and then use a good amount of bulb or dielectric grease when reinstalling the bulb socket. This should fix your problem.

Light bulb broke off in fan light how do I remove?

If the glass is broken and there are sharp pieces sticking out you can use the potato trick. Cut a small potato so you have a flat end, make sure the power to the fan light is turned off, and push the potato onto the broken remains. Then you can turn the potato to unscrew the base and just toss the whole thing in the trash. Wipe off the socket and you're set for a new bulb.

If the old bulb broke off clean so that only the base is left in the socket, you'll need to bend the edge of the base inward a little with a small screwdriver. Then grab the base with needle-nose pliers and unscrew it from the socket. Again be sure the power is off before working on the light.

1/2hp Craftsman Garage door opener light bulb

If you are getting a click the relay on the board sounds like it is working. Sometimes the contacts in the light socket gets burn spots on them. Try unplugging the unit, unscrewing the bulb and with a small scrapping tool (small flat screwdriver) scrap the bottom contact and the contact on the threads. Bend the contact on the threads a little too make better contact with the bulb. Screw the bulb the bulb in completely. If this does not solve your problem the only the left to do is to replace the logic board.

Light does not come on when I open/close door, not the bulb

Good Morning:

I also substituted Floescent Bulbs for the standard bulbs. The bulbs would not light up although the relay was working. It seemed that the Florescent bulbs had a somewhat shorter neck. What I did was unplug the drive system from the outlet and then bend the metal connector in the socket so that it would come out further towards the opening of the socket. I then repluged the drive. The Floercent bulbs now have contact and are working perfectly. Simple problem with a simple solution.
