I have an LG WM2688HWM front loading clothes washer that makes a grinding sound when the drum is turning. Everything else is OK except for the grinding sound which most likely means that the bearings need to be replaced. What are the steps to open the washer, remove the back and bearings, replace the bearings, and re-assemble the washer. Thanks.

Major job! I would suggest looking up a help video on YouTube or repair clinic if you are mechanically inclined.

The bearing is pressed in in the factory and is only available as a rear tub assembly. They claim to have extremely tight tolerances to prevent wear and unbalance. Check your owner's manual there may be an extended warranty on the rear half of the tub.

SOURCE: bad bearings on front loading lg washer 1832cw

Sorry, but you are not so lucky. LG should not even offer those parts, as it takes special hydraulic presses to install some of that. For anyone but the manufacturer them self you must replace the back half of the outer drum (I believe it is a 3045ER0008C in your case) which contains the installed seal and bearing, plus I'd recommend replacing the spider asm 4434ER0002A, as the shaft may be a bit worn where it contacted the seal and bearing, and you don't really want to go through all that work (at least 2 hours) only to have to do it again. A FixYa rating would be appreciated. Thanks.

SOURCE: LG Tromm washer WM2688HWM tE error code. Very easy

LG Tromm Washing machine te error. The manual says to call for service. Not much help there. The reason for the error is the thermistor circuit (resistive element that becomes less resistive as it increases in temperature). The thermistor acts as a heat sensor. In many cases, the error occurs because the wireing harness is too tight at the bottom of the drum and one of the wires in this circuit becomes disconnected with all of the movement of the drum (unbalanced load, normal cylcing etc).

1. Unplug the washing machine from the wall. The thermistor circuit is at line voltage (110 in the U.S.) and it will bite! So do this first before proceeding.

2. Move the washer out so you can get access to the back of it.

3. Remove the stainless panel (the one that is not painted, it is large (aprox. 16x18 inches). It is held in place by 4 phillips screws.

4. Locate the thermistor connection block near the bottom of the machine, at the center of the wash drum. It is the small white connector that has two wires running to it. One wire is dark blue, the other is light blue. Insure that neither wire has pulled out of the connector. If either of them have, repair the connector and provide enough extra wire ( aprox. 2") to provide cable relief.

5. If the cable connector and wires are ok, there are other solutions here that recommend either cleaning or replacing the thermistor.

Good luck to you.

SOURCE: machine (LG wm1280 7kg)works fine except drum wont roatae

You can repair it, but it really needs to be done by a qualified technician. What has very possibly happened, is the spider assembly has snapped that connects to the drum (that's the noise you heard).. The drum has now collapsed. Different machines open differently. The later ones have plastic outer frames, and when the "spider arm"collapses, it eats large chunks out of the drum internally. It in my opinion is not then worth the repair. For the older ones, one needs to remove drive belt and pulley then strip front of machine to enable you to open it up. This will let you then remove the inner drum. Inspect spider assy. and see if actually broken. (I'm sure it is.) Phone agents for replacement parts which will be 2 bearings and a seal and the spider assembly.Install and reassemble.

SOURCE: VERY LOUD GRINDING NOISE LG WM-2277HW Front Load Washer

Get a new washer. Perhaps another brand.

The fix for me was to get a new washer. Had same issue with loud spin cycle. Tried researching while wife was continuing use of washer. Then the LE message appeared.

Took back apart and found that water had leaked and caused a boat load of damage. Bearings shot, seal leaks, drum leaks, Stator damaged. Same issue as 'jammy64' stated.

Cost to repair wasn't worth it. Going to get an
Electrolux model.

My Tromm washer is leaving residue on my clothes

Make sure you are using the correct soap. (Front load soap powder) Also use a bit less than suggested on the packet. If you are often using cold or low temp wash cycles, dirt and build-up in the machine will be common and come off on your clothes. Use a very hot wash at least once a month to clean it out and stop using fabric softener. It sticks to everything and any dirt in the water gets stuck on and then comes off in later wash cycles.

I have an LG Tromm wm1812cw washing machine and besides all the mold and mildew problems it has, it is now making weird sounds when it spins or rotates the load. It is intermittent and doesn't always code...

With a 10 year warranty on their direct drive washer motor, eliminating a clutch or transmission, those enerty star LG's generally preform very well. (one of my customers runs 10 loads a day, 365 days a year in his)
Sounds like the shaft may have seperated from the three spider arms which actually turn the drum. To remove, you may have to grind end of bolt off motor shaft to facilitate dissassembly. It's a rather involved process. Prevent future mold and mildew issues by cleaning out the drain filter and then using a front load washer cleaner on longest, hottest cycle with no clothes (like ahfresh or washer magic, or whirlaway hot tub cleaner, to name a few.) then use not more that one tablespoon of HE detergent and a max of a teaspoon of fabric softener (if you use it) per load, as these machines are using very little water. (when you split the tub to replace the drive spider, use a pressure washer to clean out the inside of the outer drum and the back side of the inner tub) BTW, I have not found any reason to not stick with my LG washer and dryer. My seven year old set worked many a load, and still works great.

Drum won't spin freely

Are you sure that there is nothing sticking through the holes in the drum like a nail etc or a screw from trouser pockets, it could be that the heating element has come loose and is scraping against the drum or that the bearings have gone.

Le code and can start but sounds bad (rattles behind drum)

very unlikely it's the motor but could be the bearing is grinding or one of spyder bracket at back of drum has broken off. If you put it into spin with no load and just grinds then bearing is gone. if the drum wobbles and rattles then bracket is broken.LE code may or may not be related. Sometimes just plugging and unplugging the hall sensor at the back will eliminate the problem or just resetting it the way you did it. but if there's a real problem it will come back again.

Hotpoint Aquarius 1100 - Grinding Noise From Drum

This sounds like the min bearings have gone, open the door and see if there is any play up and down on the drum. if so its the bearing if not it could be something that has fallen from a pocket and got stuck between the metal clothes drum and the oute drum casing. a take apart job i am afraid for both issues.
