I tried to install 2 2gb ram ddr2 5300 sticks of ram but this laptop wouldn't run I'm told that you can make some changes in the settings so it will run with the full 4gb. right now I am running one 2gb & on 512 & it runs but doesn't seem to be any better. the spec's say I should be able to run with 4gb. I am running windows 7 32-bit system.

YES THE FREQUENCY OF BOTH RAMS DO NOT MATCH ... THATS BOOTING WITH EACH BUT ONLY ONE BY ONE ... YOU NEED RAMS OF SAME FREQUENCY AND SYSTEM WILL SUPPORT BOTH OF THEM TOGETHER ...

SOURCE: sp3 and wpa2psk wont install

Particularly I think the problem is not in Wi-Fi connection for your laptop, but the configuration of your router, try using wpa security checks and only connection, besides if you give before you upgrade the service pack, the connection works properly. Additionally if you give before you upgrade the service pack, the connection works properly.

Upgrade BIOS to see if it will resolve hardware issue with new stick of RAM

Hi Szusza,

The new RAM module you purchased may be faulty, it is definitely possible that either due to a fault of the new RAM or on the slot you are trying to install it to cause the computer to not fully boot.

Have you tried to boot the computer with the new module only?
If not please try this:

Replace the original RAM module with the new one (make sure you insert the new RAM in the same slot you took the old one out)
If the PC boots you know the new RAM is fine.
If this does not work I would suggest getting your new RAM tested.

If it does work, put the original RAM back in the computer (in a new slot) if it does not boot after that then, there is possibly a problem with the RAM slot on the motherboard.

Change ram from 512 to 1 gig bios cannot read added ram

The original 2 sticks of 256 Mb of RAM gives you a total of 512
Mb of RAM. Two 512 Mb of RAM gives you a total of 1 Gb of RAM.
With two sticks of 512 Mb of RAM are you sure you got a total of 192 Mb of RAM, this is a lot less than the original RAM total of 512 Mb?
Should this be 1920 Mb of RAM?
If this 192 Mb is correct then the RAM modules are either not compatible with the laptop or if the RAM modules are not from the same manufacturer then they may not work together.

Most laptops have video cards that use part of the main RAM for video RAM, that is why the available RAM is less than the installed RAM modules. The amount of RAM the video card grabs depends upon the type of video card and in some cases the amount of video RAM can controlled in the BIOS setting.

One of your RAM sticks might be bad.

Hopefully you have two RAM sticks. They are located behind one of the doors under your laptop.

Try removing one of the RAM sticks & fire the PC up with just one RAM stick installed.

If it still doesn't work, try removing the second RAM stick & replace it with the RAM stick you originally removed. Then try firing it up again.

If that works, try re-installing both sticks again. The contacts may have just been dirty & needed the RAM to be re-seated.

DDR2's only showing half installed RAM

IF THE SYSTEM SAYS YOU HAVE 1GB RAM THAN YOU HAVE 1 GIG OF RAM, EVEN THOU SOMEONE TOLD YOU YOU HAD 2-512MG=1GB.

HERE IS HOW I SEE WHAT YOU ARE SAYING YOU HAVE 2-DDR-2 1 GIG STICKS THAT MEAN IF 1 IS INSTALLED THAN YOU HAVE 1 GB AND IF YOU COULD GET 2 STICKS WORKING TOGETHER THAN YOU WOULD HAVE 2GB RAM.
1 CHIP SET = 1GB RAM
2 CHIP SET = 2GB RAM

YOU MOTHERBOARD MAY NOT ALLOW THAT MUCH RAM, OR WHAT I MEAN THE BIOS MAKE UP THE AMOUNT OF RAM.

TO RULE OUT ANY BAD CHIP SETS OR GOOD RAM OR BAD RAM.

TAKE THE PEACE OF RAM THAT IS WORKING OUT AND REPLACE IT WITH THE OTHER PEACE AND SEE IF IT WILL RUN.
IF IT WORKS THAN LEAVE THAT ONE IN PLACE AND INSTALL THE SECOND PEACE IN THE SECOND SLOT.
IF BOTH CHIP SET ARE GOOD THAN BOTH SHOULD WORK OKAY TOGETHER.
IF THERE IS A PROBLEM, IT MAYBE SOME DUST IN THE MEMORY LOTS
OR THE SLOT MAYBE DAMAGED.
OR
THE CHIP DESIGN LAYOUT MAYBE THE OPPOSITE SIDE, THIS MAY MEANS THE CHIPS MAY FACE EACH OTHER, OR FACE OUTWARD FROM EACH OTHER.

How much more memory can I install

This laptop can support up to a max of 1 GB of RAM , so if you buy 1 stick of 1 GB of RAM you need to take out the 768 MB and just put the 1 stick of 1 GB RAM, or your other option is to buy a 256 MB of RMA so your computer will still have a max of 1 GB of RAM and that would be cheaper and you can still use your old RMA on your laptop , this is the lin for the complete specs of your laptop http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-Compaq-Refurbished-COMPAQ-P4-M-1-8GHZ-256MB-30GB-14-1-TFT-CDRW-W-XP

Hope that helps...........

Ram upgrade

Initial blue screen of death is probably caused by the ram.
install original ram and see if everything is ok, next install 1 of your upgrade sticks, reboot and see what happens, if it fails use the other stick, if it still fails, sell those on e-bay and run a scan from crucial.com and see what is compatible.
