This is indicating the battery is too hot to charge, usually after coming off the tool right after some hard work. During the charging process the battey heats up so if you charge a hot battery, thereby making it hotter, you shorten the lifespan of the battery considerably. If you are getting a hot/cold pack delay indication on the charger, it should automatically start charging once the battery has cooled down sufficently.

Unplug at wall then plug back in a few times.. worked for me. Also if wont charge then get a 12v batter charger and excite it a few times or charge it for a few minutes to put some life back into it.. if that dont work open the battery and find the dead cell and try shock it back to life if that dont work swap that cell with a better one from any old battery.. better yet if it's the old NiCd battery then rip out all the old cells and insert lithium cell pack just solder the terminals and your away laughing

A makita battery charger is flashing red with a battery plugged in, what does this mean?

On the Makita 18-V DC18RA charger, the flashing red light means that the battery is not at the correct temperature for safe charging. If the battery is hot (from use or being in direct sunlight), charging will begin when the battery cools down. If the battery is cold, then charging will start when the battery warms up. (Note: the cold battery could have moisture condensation issues. This could delay the start of the charging cycle.) Home Depot has the manual for this charger here: https://images.homedepot-static.com/catalog/pdfimages/35/35393127-7c0b-4668-8609-9104ae7cc187.pdf . I suspect that Makita uses the same "code" on all of their chargers.

I hope this helps.

I have a Lincoln 14.4-18v charger that showing a hot-cold pack delay. I have two batteries that haven't been used in a few days and the code comes up on both.

Insert batteries in and out of charger quickly several times to help make better contact, its worked for me in the past. seems like contacts get dirty and this gets them shinning again.

Makita DC1414 7.2v - 14.4v Charger NiMH & NiCD Genuine Makita Charger. What does the Delay Charge (to hot ) mean

Here is the manual for your charger. Delay charge means the battery is still hot due to removing it from a used condition or left out in direct sun or heat. https://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pdfimages/0d/0d112214-cc51-4a32-b919-5ea3d317550b.pdf

Battery won't charge. Light pattern on the charger is " ._._._. Is this battery bad.

What is the residual voltage on your battery, if it is too low, charger will not engage. If the voltage is below the threshold allowed, simply jolt the Nickel Cadmium battery with a car charger to bring it up, then install on charger.

HELLO: OUR MILWAUKEE 48-59-2401 BATTERY CHARGER IS NOT CHARGING OUR 48-11-2401 BATTERY PACKS. WHEN YOU RUN THE PACK DOWN TO 1 OR 2 LIGHTS & PUT IT IN THE CHARGER BOTH RED & GREEN LIGHTS FLASH....

If both lights are flashing after you put a cool battery on the charger, the battery is bad. It could have a bad, worn or shorted cell or other problems inside and the charge will not charge it as long as it reads it as a bad battery. Rechargable batteries do have a finite life determined mainly by how many times you recharge them.
